2000 Silverado 4wd switch

Houlio45

Question

The four-wheel drive switch is indicating the truck is in 4-wheel drive, but it isn't. Pushing the 2-wheel drive button flashes for a bit, then returns to 4-hi. SAme with 4-low. If I push 4-auto, it lights up and stays there, however, at no time does it switch to 4-wheel drive. I can hear it try to shift at the transfer case, but nothing happens. I'd sure appreciate some trouble shooting. Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest the switch first as well. If memory serves, the 99-03 models had switches that were known to go out or go bad VERY often. Lots of posts about them on this site many years ago and the suggestions from others helped me out on here back then when I had my 99. I got a new one off of gmpartsdirect.com for about $40.00 and my issue was solved, though my symptoms were a bit different. You could very much have an issue with with both the switch and/or something in the motor underneath that moves it to 4WD. (the name is escaping me at the moment)
