Rear Power Windows Acting Strange

gammafrench

Question

Hello,

I have a 2007 Silverado Crew-Cab LTZ (New body style) and recently a strange thing has started happening. When using the switches at the rear doors, the windows will go down, but not up. They can be raised only from the driver's seat. Both of the front windows work fine. Additionally, the window lock at the driver's door will not prevent any of the other windows from working. I haven't performed any troubleshooting, because it's cold and rainy right now.

I suspect the issue is a module that has gone bad. If it was a switch I would think it would be only one side that's acting like this but not both. I have a subscription to AllDataDIY.com but cannot find anything that helps me there.

I would appreciate any assistance in troubleshooting this issue.

Thank you,

Gamma

Well, I found the issue and it was pretty simple.

I removed the switches, took them apart, and using an eraser, cleaned the contact points under the rubber "button" much like the contacts inside TV remotes or calculators. This is all it took and both windows are working fine. It was a real coincidence that both stopped working, and in the up direction for both.

I hope this fix helps others. Look for the simplest solution first and it will more often than not be the correct one.
