Do yourself a favour and change your idea of disconnecting the positive cable first for this. It makes zero difference to the system which cable is removed first, but, if you remove the negative cable first, and by accident the wrench that is loosening the nut happens to slip and touch the fender, no problem. Try that with the positive cable being removed first, and you will now have a wrench welded to the top edge of the fender..

 

You should ALWAYS remove the ground side first. In virtually all vehicles you will come across that is the negative lead, but, on positive ground vehicles it would be positive cable. Our trucks are negative ground, so always remove NEGATIVE lead first, and connect it back up LAST.
