My engine light came on and when I took it to the dealer they checked it out and said the cam has a bad lobe. This is a 2011 Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 Flex Fuel in it. He also told me this has been a problem since 2007. They wanted $3100 to fix but said that GM would pay $2100 of it. I am paying $1000 for something that's been a problem in GM for years. This truck has 105,000 miles on it. I was hoping it would last longer than that. I drove Fords and Dodge all my life and this is the first Chevy I owned and am very disappointed. I guess its time to change. I am going to try and get them to pay for it all but not sure what kind of luck I will have.

Warranty is 5/100k right? So if your over warranty, even by 5k miles, id say by the dealer sticking you with $1k is not terrible but a sign of good faith. Would it be nice for them to pick up the tab.. yes, but your lucky even for them to offer hat they did. Just my opinion.

My 06 had this and it was a 3400 dollar deal at a local shop. Mine only had 92,000 when it happened. Its the cam delaminating and in my case it was all new lifters, hone and pressure test heads, new water pump, reunion bearing upgrade, and other small stuff. However I had an extended warranty and ended up paying 400 total, for the extra stuff I had them do. Sorry man but for 1000 dollars your getting lots of new parts!

I understand that I am getting a good deal with the warranty expired. My problem is if that's been a problem with the cams in these engines than GM should take care of it. This seems to have been ongoing since 2006 or 07. Thanks for your feed back anyway.
