1995 k3500 questions

Recommended Posts

New guy here with classic newbie questions. I'm currently looking at a gmc k3500 crew cab P/U. Haven't had the chance to look at it yet. Owner says it came with the 454 but had been swapped to a 350tbi. Still have the NV4500 and BW4401 TC. Well owner is saying it won't stay in gear unless it's in 4low. Said the high gear shift fork is bent. Truck has 259k on the body. Body is straight but bad paint. Interior is dirty but looks to be in good condition. I still need to drive it and see it in person. KBB says 2900 in fair condition. Guys original price was 4k but that was before the so called shift fork. What do you guys think. I can get a used tcase for about 400-500 and I'm pretty sure I can install it myself (I build jeeps so I know my way around a wrench). What do you guys think would be a fair price. I'm thinking 2400-2700..or am I way off. Thanks in advance

Forgot but truck is a 1995

Since the engine has been replaced with a smaller engine. The truck isn't going to be able to do what it was originally intended to do. The shift fork thing is also going to cost a repair job or at least parts if you are doing the work. I'm thinking unless you need a 3500 I'd find a different vehicle or get the price down closer to like $1500. I just got my 2500 for $2500, so I think there is a better deal to be had.

I have a 1995 K3500, 4x4, CC long bed with a 350.

I have 135,000 miles on everything but the motor, which was replaced at 63,000 miles. The body is good, a few dings, no rust. It is the Silverado package which was the nicest interior in 1995.

I'd be lucky in Florida to get $1500 for it.

The 350 is adequate for the job. I towed a car on a trailer with a canoe on top, a disassembled boat trailer under the car and the bed completely full under the camper shell when we moved from Maine to Florida. You're not going to go anywhere in a hurry, loaded or unloaded. The best fuel economy that I ever got was about 15 on the highway.

With bad paint and drivetrain problem, I wouldn't give more than $1000.

The 95 350 is one of the worst production engines GM ever made. The heads are horrible on power. I think my 95 is rated at 190hp.

My opinion, if you need a 3500, get one with a vortec. Do not buy a 454, you'll get 10mpg at best... unless you plan on putting a supercharger on that thing, then holy hell hang on.

I disagree with "worst production engine". It is very reliable and has the potential for horsepower. Out of the box, it's rated at 200hp, which is probably 160 at the wheels.

I should have said, worst production heads ever. My error.

Seriously, these heads flow like molasses on a winter day. Horrible. If one is so inclined, they could bolt on some bowtie heads for a dramatic improvement. Or better yet, vortec heads and a new intake manifold.

Well went and looked at the truck. Everything was as he said. Transfer case wound stay in gear unless it was in 4L. Offered him $1200 and he said yes. Gonna pick it up this weekend and tear the tcase down and see if it's worth fixing or if it'll be cheaper to buy a used one. im on a mobile browser so I'm not sure how to post pics. Might check it through taptalk and see.

Thanks. It has its issues. Tcase and a little body damage. Not a fan of the rear bumper or the wheels. Needs tires. But I'll paint it and straighten the mechanical issues out. Trying to locate some 8 lug plain GM rims now. Think I found some off of a 2500 van with caps for 200. Tires will be around 800 installed.

That GMC Sierra is a 1994, not a 1995. 1994 was the first year of the cab third break light. It has the 1995 and newer mirrors and from the outside it does look like a 1995 and newer. However the interior was completely changed in 1995. That has the old 1994 and older interior. Just saying.....

My opinion....I would not go any higher then $1500.00

On a personal note; I have a 1995 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado with a 350tbi, 4L60e tranny, 3.42 rear-end with 226,785 all original miles/original drive-train. I've put a timing-chain on it the year before last (had a slight hesitation, fixed problem). Very, very, very dependable truck! I wish I could buy the exact same truck new today. I've had it for over 11 years. I've put the normal miscellaneous parts on it over the years. Anyhow good luck and hope all works out.

Door tag says 94 buy title says 95 and vins match. Figured it was a crossover year. Jeep did this alot with their vehicles. Anyways its not a huge deal. I paid $1200 for it.

Very well could be I guess, glad you got the truck and at that price! Hope all goes well with it. They're very dependable trucks! Congrats!
