MAF cleaning Q?

Recommended Posts

About a month ago the check engine light came on, in my 2004 Silverado 1500 4WD. I had it checked out and it was the MAF code. They cleared that out and it was fine since. I was driving it last night and the check engine light came on again... same circumstances as before, giving it some gas on a freeway entrance ramp.

It runs/has run fine each time. I don't notice any difference in drive-ability.

I'm guessing it's the same thing. My plan is to clean the MAF sensor, disconnect the battery for a bit to clear it out, and see how it goes driving it after that.

If that doesn't do it, the MAF sensor may just be old and need to be replaced.

My question, I haven't been able to quite figure out in posts, is should the MAF sensor be cleaned when the engine is cold or after driving it a bit and the engine is warm?
