dura international vs napa brake drums

Recommended Posts

I plan on replacing the rear oil seals on my 1996 chevy k1500. the oil seal for the driverside is leaking a good amount. the problem is I am pretty sure that it has ruined my brake shoes. so while im doing all of this im wondering if I should just replace the brake drums too. they look glazed over pretty good. they dont have grooves but they are deffinatly used. Far as I know they havent been changed in 230,000 miles. the truck was a company work truck and the company did minimum maintance. what are your thoughts. I would also like the assurance of having new ones on.

I have narrowed it down to 2 different kinds of drums if im going ot replace them. Napa drums that dont seem to have a higher or lower grade. or durainternational ones on amazon. the napa ones are local and the guys there are really good guys (at work and outside) but the amazon ones are about $13 cheaper. what are your thoughts? would i be better off just getting them localy? I am going to pair them with ac delco proffesional durastop shoes.

Also does anyone have a picture of what the shoe set up should look like? so I have something to look at?

Last but not least. how hard is it to replace the parking brake cables? mine are broken thanks

You asked for a picture of the brake setup,by completing one side you can use the other as reference....better than a picture.

It's what I do to make sure all parts are where they are supposed to be.

But here's a picture of my wife's brakes I did a while back. It's a '99 Suburban 4x4.The setup should be the same as yours.

I got the seals and everything done. Thanks for the pic but I have the other style of brake. The only issue I have now is,I got them all back together fine but the adjuster spring on the passenger side seemed to have issues. I checked, checked again and rechecked to make sure it was hooked up right but it didn't seem to have the same tension on it. It wasn't loose just seemed looser. Do j need to replace the spring or has anyone else had this problem?

Here is a pic of mine with the bad axle seal
