Have a '15 Suburban as a rental.......impressions.

Recommended Posts

Some dumba$$ rear ended my wife in her 2007 Durango 4x4 5.7 at a stop light the other day. Unfortunately he didn't total it, so it's waiting to get repaired. We were going to trade it in for a new Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban shortly, so now our trade in will have an accident associated with it. Ugh.

We requested a Suburban as a rental so we could see if it's too big. Got a 2015 Suburban LT (w/ nav) 4x4 with 1k miles on it. Has a 12/14 build date. I've driven it for 50 miles so far, still taking it out for a spin whenever I can. Get some snow tomorrow so will test the 4wd fully. I found some snow in the shade and the auto 4WD worked just fine.

First impressions, pretty sweet ride. Drives much better than the Durango, way smoother. The MyLink/Navigation screen is decent. I prefer the MyFordTouch in my Taurus SHO, the MyLink seems a little cheesy/cheap. The screen seems a little too far back in the dash. With the seat a ways back in my driving position, I have to move my head to see the left part of the screen.

The headlights are horrible. Don't light up the road. Hopefully just need to be adjusted upwards.

I wish the tail gate didn't open automatically so fast. I don't have time to hit the button again to stop it quickly enough. The rear cargo area slopes down which cause stuff in the back to fall out once the tail gate opens. Annoying.

Definitely need the Technology Package. Also this guy has no power rear seats, no front parking sensors, no DVD, no second buckets. All stuff I'll need on ours.

The 5.3L/6 Speed is fine. Sure I'd love the 6.2's extra grunt and 8 speed, but I wouldn't lose any sleep.

No light in the glove box is lame. I love the interior lights, I think they are LED?

i wish there was more than 2 cup holders in center console. The center console is huge, wife puts her purse in there.

The black air dam on front bumper sucks. It doesn't clear concrete parking stops.

Overall, not a bad ride. I could totally rock a Z71 Suburban with Luxury Package. Might splurge and get a Denali XL so there are no regrets. Hopefully the HID headlights are better!

Nope, no abnormal sounds. Driven over 200 miles in it, no issues.

Looked at 2015 Expedition and Navigators today to compare. GM wins hands down.

Wife really loves the Burb. Even fits in our small garage with about 6" to spare! Adjusting the headlights made them much better, still miss HIDs though.

The MyLink/BOSE system is not too bad, getting used to it. I definitely want the 6.2L, just not sure if I can justify the $$. Even a 5.3L LT is too much, IMO.

Decisions....

Are the Denali HIDs good? These halogens are awful for a $60K vehicle.

I have great visibility on the Denali HID at night time. I believe the halogens that are equipped on the Tahoes are H11. Standard H11 halogens produces 1300 to 2100 Lumens. 35w HID usually produces 2800 to 3300 lumens and @55w it can produce ~4100 lumens.

I don't know what wattage the stock Denali HIDs are but I would say they are around 35w and are pretty good lighting the road at night. Especially now that I put in 1200lm LEDs fogs.

Been driving a 2015d Tahoe LT rental for the past couple of weeks.

GM needs to redesign the washer fluid controls. The round button at the end of the black stalk should do the front wiper/spray. The push lever that does the fronts should do the rear. Just annoying you have to take your left hand off the wheel to do a quick wipe or use the spray.

I don't disagree, but GM has been married to the multifunction turn signal stalks since at least the 70's, if not earlier. That's one of those things that I wish they would figure out a better alternative for.

This thread isn't super recent, but have you found the storage behind the screen? I have a XL Denali on order, but I rented a Suburban for a week for a trip, and I don't know what I would even put in the glovebox between the giant console and the storage behind the screen.
