2016 H/D's

Recommended Posts

Any news, on the 2016 GMC's or Chevy's? Just wonder if at this point should I wait and see what's on the radar screen in terms of improvements. I'm considering a 3500 Duramax Powered SRW.

Thanks,

Joe

Don't hold your breath. The new models just came out, it will be a few years before anything is changed. Only thing I could see happening is a new D/A combo since that has been the same since 2011 I believe. (Don't get me wrong, that is a pretty big change, but I would like to see more)

I've been doing some searching on-line tonight, and it does appear the h.p and torque on the Duramax Engines is going to increase. There are a couple of spy photos out there with a taller hood and larger air intake. There was also some print about going to a 6.2 gas vs. the current 6.0. I'm sure someone from GM will chime in as we get closer to the middle of the year. I would like to have a 450 h.p. Duramax-880 ft. lbs. of torque similar to the Fords and Dodges.

I would guess by late March or April we will have info on 2016 models. My guess is the duramax upgrade won't happen until 2017 or 2018 model year. Rumor is the half tons will have a redesign in 2017 model year, we will probably get a glimpse of that at the 2016 Detroit auto show.

Hoping they axe the 6.0 for a "truck" 6.2.

More usable cam profile, iron block, DI, ect.

Ditto. I'm really hoping for that.

Do you have a link about the 6.2L talk

I would like to see this as well. So far, all I've seen is speculation.

whenever buy a truck or any product that is constantly getting improved I just buy when I need it. If you wait for the new model it will be outdated in six months anyways. I test drove all three diesels and settled on the Dmax. Its missing some power on paper but you cant really notice it. Plus Ford is coming out with a rumored all aluminium Super duty with an even more powerful Powerstroke for the 2017 model year. Ram and Cummins are most likely already working on a counter to the Ford so the new Duramax will be behind already if it just matches what the others have for 2015.

I still ordered a Duramax because of the reliability. Willing to sacrifice 100 foot pounds of torque for some proven reliability. The Cummins is also proven reliable but I hate the look of the new Rams. Ford changes the powerstroke too often for me to say its reliable.

I wouldn't be all that concerned about the DM power in comparison to the Ford or Ram. On paper it is less, but real world performance, it is better. One of the magazines did a shoot out between all three, dragging a trailer around. Even a quarter mile run. The GM truck won in every test. I have a 2013 Ram 2500 Longhorn with the Cummins. I hate the damn thing, and am currently looking at GMC. I just can't decide between a 2500 with a DM or a 1500 with the 6.2/8 speed. My Ram averages 17 mpg on the highway, speeds under 70. When towing, no matter how light, I can't get better than 11 mpg, and it's usually 9 with a 4000 pound empty car hauler. 5-7 with the car in it. The ride is brutal, even with the tire air pressure set to the lowest settings. The seats are about as comfortable as an old iron park bench. Dead throttle, noisy, and I've had a CEL on so often, since the day I bought it, that when it's not on, it feels as if something is amiss.

I test drove a brand new 3500 Ram the other week with a CEL on lmao!

Dead throttle, no power, flat seats, full of suck!

Duramax has a crappy injection pump and emissions system sucks but I believe it is the best of what's offered today.

The diesel power competition by the big 3 borderlines on the absurd. I understand the gearing and transmissions are different, but the current 3/4 and one ton diesels are putting out numbers that are competitive with class 6 and 7 trucks. You'll run out of chassis and brakes long before you run out of engine.

If you want the latest and greatest, it won't hurt to wait. But I wouldn't pass up the the current Duramax thinking that it's short on power.

And there is also one downside to holding out for the "latest and greatest". Every time the OEM's make changes to major components like engines and transmissions, there always seems to be a couple of years before they get all the bugs worked out. Especially with these new emissions component laden diesels we have now with a thousand different sensors, all of them waiting for their chance to screw your life up. This has been the bane of the heavy commercial trucking game.

Not everything that gets tested gets released.

Just because it's being tested now doesn't mean that the intended release is for 16 model.
