Mountain Biking - Post up your bikes and where you ride!

Recommended Posts

Just getting back into the sport. I bought myself a 2015 Specialized Rockhopper. Taken it on a few rides so far. Here in Houston, there's nothing extreme to ride on, but some halfway decent trails if you know where to find them. Love the bike so far. Contemplating upgrading the front forks with some Rock Shox. Have always had a good experience with those. Got some new pedals on the way and some bigger tires. Can't wait to get out there!

Post up your bikes...lets see them!

Don't have any pics. handy at the moment but I picked up a new bike last year.

Got a TREK X-Caliber 8. Very comfortable to ride and handles great.

OP, upgrading to RockShox sounds like a good idea. It appears that you have SR Suntour forks, can't really tell which model. Going the RockShox route will definitely be an improvement. I would suggest a set of Reba or Recon Golds if you want a decent fork and don't want to break the bank. You can find brand new take-offs for fair prices.

My X-Caliber 8 came with XC 30's and they work well. I do plan to upgrade this summer if I can find a set of Reba's at a decent price.

It's been a couple years since I have seriously been out on the bike, but trail ride Mid-Mi when I do get out. Have rode numerous miles on Mackinaw Island, including some of the trails up in the middle of the island.

'07 Specialized Epic Expert- only pic I have of it. Wife's '10 Safire Comp in the back ground. Pic was taken to show the tail/ brake light set up I made for our rack.

Don't have a pic of my first mtb, but started with a '95 Rockhopper (FULL RIGID!) in April '96, added a cheap(er) suspension fork in June, and by Aug had the top '96 Stumpjumper out of layaway! Was bit by the bug big time!

Most trail miles I have rode at once is just short of 30 miles, during the Iceman Cometh Mtb Race.

We want to include road bikes also?

Some sweet bikes posted so far!

Wow glad I found this thread. I'd like to get into the mountain bike game. I don't plan to rip jumps or go pro, mostly rail trail, some off road riding; fairly easy stuff. That said, I have the mentality of wanting to be "able" to push it a bit.

I've looked at a few Rahleigh's and Marin's at my local shop. Looking to keep it around $500.

From a friend who is pretty hardcore, it was suggested to just make sure I get some decent hardware on the bike so k don't have any unnecessary braking or shift/chain issues.

Some input would be great.

Aaron,

Shopping for a bike (anything for that matter) can be fun and a pain at the same time. A lot of bikers will tell you to get the most bike you can afford, as long as it fits!!!! But.... If it comes down to a couple different models: 1 with a good frame and better components, or another with a better frame but slightly lower components, they will suggest the better frame/ slightly lower components bike. Reason: more of a pain and expense to upgrade the frame, but can slowly replace the components when needed or funds allow, resulting in an even better bike overall.

Remember, a correct fitting bike is the most important thing!!!

Good luck!!!
