2014 5.3L Silverado 1500 engine tick

Question

Apologize if this topic has been addressed before. Just purchased a leftover 2014 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3L. I can hear a ticking noise from the engine. Dealer says it is direct injection making the noise. Do all the 5.3's sound like that? Not real happy with it and if what dealer says is true I can't understand why GM would let that happen. Can anyone comment? Thanks.

If it makes you feel any better I have an 06 1500 silverado that makes the same noise right along with power steering pump issues

My 2014 4.6L ticks, although you can't hear it unless you're standing outside. Most fuel injected vehicles I've owned also experienced the tick which really is normal. However, in my experience, you shouldn't really be able to hear the ticking from within the cab - especially with a 2014 since it's designed to be quiet in the cab. If you can hear ticking inside the cab then it might be something like a bad manifold gasket.

Direct injection. These engines use very high pressure fuel pumps to support the direct fuel injection.... Most likely what you're hearing. All direct injection engines make a ticking noise. My truck (5.3) does it, and my Cobalt SS turbo (2.0L direct injected) did too.

Seems to be the way of the world today. Every engine on just about every new vehicle out there, going back to the mid '00 model years, makes a racket now. Mine included, but only when first started.

I've had 40 year old vehicles that were more quiet than this thing ....
