6.2 truck owners

Recommended Posts

Have a 2011 6.2 chev silverado.Truck has about 100,000k on it now.Runs perfect but noticed oil preesure has dropped.Up to 90,000k it always run just above the 275kpa on gauge. Now it is to the bottom of 275kpa.Now i am talking the bottom of 2 for low and a needle width above the 5 on the high.It has dropped that much, this is cruising down HWY at 100k at 1600rpm.Any one else notice a drop or is it time to test the 160000k power train warranty.

275 KiloPascals is around 40 psi. Around 40 psi on the highway is close to normal once the engine oil is warmed up. Also, as you near the end of an oil change interval, I would expect the pressure to drop a little bit due to the oil shearing down to a lighter weight from fuel-dilution. Your engine is probably aging normally causing the tolerances to open up a smidge causing a small drop in oil pressure.

To answer your question more direcly, I wouldn't be too concerned about 35-40 psi of oil pressire at 1,600 rpm. Mine runs a bit over 40 psi on the highway with fully warmed up oil, but it is turning almost 2100 rpm at 72mph (120km/h) because I have the 4-speed and 3.73 gears.

Unless you've got nasty noises from under the hood, I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Mixing synthetic oil with oil additive not for synthetic also causes low oil pressure. Your engine does not have any common oil pressure problems other than the sensor behind the intake

Typically that causes the guage to read erratically

My 2008 Vortec Max kind of did the same thing. It was a day or so after I put the stock tune back in. I was running a BlackBear tune and had the AFM turned off. Reading around there is a Valve Lifter Oil Filter just under the Oil Pressure sending unit. Its about the size of a cigarette butt, cost is around $10. It would be really easy to replace if it wasn't for the position that the sending unit is in at the back of the engine. Basically all you have to do is disconnect the harness from the sending unit, unscrew the sending unit and use a small hook to get the filter out. Put new filter in and put the sending unit back in. There are Youtube videos showing how to do it.

Unfortunatley I traded my 2008 for a 2015 before I could change mine.
