Truck prices are out of control!

It's sad when an American pickup can command the same price as a high end luxury European car; I built a Silverado High Country with all the bells and whistles, and it priced out at $62,109, and that's a couple grand less than the BASE MSRP of a Mercedes GL!!

I agree. I'm not sure where the price jump came from but it's alot. I've owned 4 chevy trucks and the 2014 is ridiculously priced. If it wasn't for the heavy discounts at the time of my purchase, I wouldn't have bought one again. With that said, there's some serious deals to be had if you buy at the right time. My current truck stickered at just over 46k, and out the door as 37k, so I don't think thats to bad. I've been seening others here getting similar if not better deals too. So buying at the right time is key.

I think they are perfectly reasonably priced...given that they have everything from heated and cooled seats, to power heated folding mirrors, 355-420 hp engines, 6 & 8 speed transmissions, backup cameras, anti-collision systems, stability control, side curtain airbags, Bose audio systems, 8" computer systems, automatically dimming mirrors, and the crowds still want more stuff. The price jump came with each and every gingerbread option. Is anyone really surprised? There are no free lunches!

I'm as guilty as the next guy. I have a SLT AT with most of the options. Do we really need all this crap? In a given month I don't use many of the options. The nav and infotainment system doesn't see much use from me other than the AM radio. I've never used many of the capabilities in that system. Heated seats don't get used. The 65 way power adjustable seats stay where they are set except to clean under them.

There are large organizations within these manufacturers of trucks that do more sophisticated market studies than you would believe. Manufacturers don't just arbitrarily jack up prices, nor do they add options because a few dozen people on an internet forum want them. Their trucks are priced to target their understanding of their market. You may or may not be in their target market. Chances are that you are in their target market, but maybe just not for a fully loaded double step-thru, presidential package, seal team six sized truck.

My 2011 Silverado Ext Cab 4x4 NHT 6.2L with back up camera, back up sensors, adjustable pedals, trailer brake controller, center console with bucket seats, fog lights, remote start etc... $36k out the door with tax.

2015 Silverado Double Cab 4x4 5.3L that I test drove with center console and bucket seats, trailer brake controller. No camera, no sensors, no adjustable pedals, no remote start, no fog lights, and a 5.3L instead of a 6.2L. $43k before tax. What exactly are you getting anymore when you buy a new truck? Looks like a lot of nothing to me...

2012 was about the last "cheap" year. My Z71 5.3 ext.cab all star package was stickered at $36,795 i think. That same truck would be $42-$43 thousand now.

My 2010 stickered in the 44K range. This was an LT

Pffff.... My 95 Z71 4x4 was $15000 new.

I had to take a jab at that one.

Well my LT sticker was 41K which at first seems a bit much for a medium equipped truck, but then when you look at everything the truck does have it's not that bad of a price especially when I got a few thousand off sticker. The ones that are over 50K are the upper trim levels. It seems like more people than ever are buying trucks that they also want the luxury. Personally I don't care for luxury, I don't even like leather seats. But, a truck can do a lot more than a Benz or any other car no matter how much the car cost so I think that's why people don't mind paying good money for a truck with a luxury style interior.

What I can't really wrap my head behind is the price that Tahoes and Suburbans are going for, even the lowest trim levels seem a bit much.

I guess I'm not as concerned with how expensive the new trucks are, I'm more confused with how people are affording to own one. I make a decent salary and there is no way I could tackle a monthly payment on a 45k truck and feel comfortable. More power to all you that can, just makes me wonder.

It is apples to apples if you ask me. What do you get for more money? Less options, same crappy sheet metal, and same crappy paint. A fancy interior that's quieter, and more complicated electronics sure won't make it last any longer... [emoji6]
