What's your job?

What does everyone do for work? Are you self employed, or work for someone else?

I am curious to see what industries others are in. I am at that point in my life (27, a little late actually by some standards) where I need to pick something. I want a career, not just a job. I was self employed for a few years, and I miss that feeling dearly, but I was married to that job. Going back there isn't an option since I want a family now.

So, what's your line of work?

Regulatory engineer specialist for Big commercial airplane maker. I keep the company from breaking the law, help airlines out in a jam, certified a few things in the past, mostly consult with management these days. My only product is often a happy manager or unhappy, whichever. Some days I can say I earn my keep and then some. Most people might say I don't do any real work, but some days the sweat rings join and my head hurts real bad. I have 4-5 years before I can retire comfortably, sooner would mean a tight budget.

US Air Force, career Aerospace Ground Equipment. 18+ years, 18 months to retirement. If it can be torn apart I've probably done it twice. We work on everything, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic, heating, cooling, it's a great job to get a wealth of experience and training.

I'm a Cad manager for an environmental engineering company. I am the lead designer for the company specializing in Civil 3d software and design. I also make all company computer purchases, implement new software, provide training and maintain the company servers too. I've been doing this for nearly 30 years already and still love it. Alot of what we do deals with air quality issues, wetlands, stream restoration and a big chunk for me is landfill design. We work for bigger companies like Waste management, Violia, Advanced services, BFI and many others corporate and privately owned.

Retired U.S. Navy Chief Avionics Technician.

Now, I am a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) pilot/technician/supervisor. We use work class ROVs subsea to install, inspect, operate, maintain and salvage on subsea oil structures/systems.

The short answer; I work on a boat and have a million dollar video game.

35 years at Burns & McDonnell as a Project Controls Manager, then 5 years at Honeywell - Project Controls Contractor.

Retired a month ago! Now I enjoy hangin' out with my 4 boys and 5 grandkids almost every day...

(Until warm weather gets here in April... then you know what I'll be doing.) :driving:

Cheif Deputy Engineer at a local city. My main job is construction project management, but as of late we are doing more design work in house, so I'm doing more of that now too. I worked here part time in college, been full time for 4 years now.
