Fuel MPG in the 6.0 engine?

I get 8-9 in town.. 4.10 gears. 9-14hwy. the 6.0 hates headwinds. Love the engine overall

just did the calculations. 1500 6.2 premium versus 2500 6.0 at 15,000 miles. The 2500 would cost about $900 more a year in for the 2500 truck

Could be, considering the engine is having to move a lot more with a 2500 than a 1500. But comparing my 2013 5.3 3.42 1500 LT Z71 with my 2015 6.0L 4.10 2500 LT Z71, I have only lost a little less than 2 mpg on average of all miles, town and highway. Got just shy of 15 mpg for all miles on the 1500, am getting 13 mpg for all miles on my 2500. Not really that big of a deal, and as the marketing stuff states... individual results will vary. Both pickups, I could deal with better mpg from them, but that is another issue altogether.

Well, finally got a short road trip in this weekend, about 300 miles freeway running. Weather mid to high 40's. 5-10 mph headwind half the trip, 5 mph tail wind back. Iowa rolling hills. Ran mostly at 65 mph. Loaded up with E15 regular winter grade fuel. Still under 1000 miles on the pickup. Averaged 16 mpg for the trip. I can live with that. Will be interesting to see how a similar trip would be on summer fuel and warmer weather.

When summer gets here, I will try different ethanol blends and different octane fuels and see how the mpg is for each fuel. Then I can do my calculations at fill up time to determine the lowest cost per mile and make my fuel selection based on average mpg for the various fuels and current pump pricing.

Wow, 16 is pretty good. Just got back from a round trip of about 100 miles one way. I got a little less then 16 on the way there and about 15 on the way back with a side wind. Both were driving about 71 MPH on the highway, rolling hills to flat ground.

That's pretty good. I made a little 200 mile trip this weekend in my truck. Mostly 2 lane highway, with a little interstate. Drove 60-65 on the highway and 70-75 on the interstate. Averaged 17.4 for the entire trip. I'm only 1.4 MPG better than you, and you've got a whole lot more truck than me, haha.

16 is great. For comparison this past weekend I did a 650 mile all hwy trip with my 14 1500 (denali 4x4 6.2, 3.43), had my cruise set on 63mph just about the whole time, and got 19.85mpg. For what extra it cost me for premium gas, that's no different than if you'd gotten 17.7 on regular. For a 1.7mpg penalty I'd gladly trade it for a 3/4ton.

Yeah, it was a nice surprise. My 2013 1500 5.3L LT Z71 averaged 14 mpg for all lifetime miles. Town, highway, gravel roads, farm fields. My 2015 2500 LT Z71 is averaging 13 for all miles under the same conditions so far. Only 1 mpg less. And that is only winter! The 1500's lifetime miles were for all seasons year round. I keep thinking that this 3/4 ton will meet or beat the 1500's lifetime average. When we finally get into consistent warm weather and the summer grade fuel finally makes it to the pumps, it ought to be interesting. But I will give it a longer run in May. Will be running down to Memphis, TN. Gonna play it out a little on this one.... run U.S. 63 from Iowa to I-55 in Arkansas. That will be a hilly, curvy deal in some places with more towns to go thru. Then on return, run I-55 to St. Louis and then take 61 N to 218 into Iowa City then I-80 W back home. Only real cities to deal with on that run is St. Louis and Hannibal, MO. That will be all 4 lane with a little more flat running for longer stretches. Should get a real good read on what the average mpg is really going to be for that round trip.

I cannot figure out how you guys are squeezing out these crazy mileages out of HD 6.0's, I have had a ton of them and they are work horses but only get 10mpg.

again - I get 13-14 mostly highway 70-75 mph combined, will say my 2004 got less than the 11 (more like 11-12 mpg).

I never really floor the truck - easy does it

I must have some real dumb luck. I was able to consistently get around 16 with my '98 2500 with a 454 and 4.10 ratio. Seems ballpark where this one will be, but too early to tell. Just could not get all that good of mpg out of my '13 1500.

A lot of it is where you are driving. I am in MD and we have a lot of hills. My 1500 averaged 14 MPG lifetime and I could get 16 or so just driving highway around here. Again, even local hwy is up a hill down a hill, rinse and repeat. Now taking a trip to OBX every year I got 22mpg down and back every year. It's a pretty flat drive.
