You Know Your a Gearhead when.....

Recommended Posts

On my 2013 Craftsman Garden Tractor, I installed a sunpro oil pressure gauge, sunpro temp gauge, sunpro volt gauge and digital tachometer. Also installed 80watt LED headlights!

Some might think its a bit much for a Garden tractor....however I think its pretty neat myself!

Each gauge I mounted within the instrument cluster by drilling a hole the width of the gauge, temperature gauge I installed the end between the air fins of the engine block. Oil pressure gauge right above the oil filter as there was a small fitting. Volts gauge I installed on 12 volt power when key is turned on. The digital tachometer was wrapped around spark plug wire number 1.

Oil Pressure Gauge; 38PSI cold and about 25PSI after engine is warm.

Volts Gauge; 14VDC to 16VDC

Temperature Gauge; 160F to 200F degrees

What do y'all think?

Daniel

It's interesting for sure. I've often wondered what rpm my little briggs straton is running at that it makes so much noise. I've also wondered if it can keep up with the cooling demands cutting 2.6 acres of land in a Georgia summer.

Love to see pics!

As far as headlights.. eh.. I have a golfcart for yard work that needs lights. I'm not gonna be cutting my grass at night. I did however consider getting a rigid light bar on the front and back of it. Ya know.. just in case.

Well the RPM's are the follow; 1500RPM's to 1600RPM's at idle and I've had it full throttle at over 3,800RPM's. They idle fast. It's a 26HP V-Twin Kohler engine. Haven't used it in the hot summer yet...I'm interested as well. I've thought about adding some LED fog lights to it. Yeah I don't plan on mowing in the dark either, I did it just because

3500-3800 is about the normal RPM at operating speed

You are correct Chris, manual states 15amp charging at 3600RPM.

No GPS?

Yeah I knew I forgot something

Looks nice!

Thanks Matt, I think so!

26hp? What size deck?

Mines just a toyo "pony" I bought from lowes back in ~2008/9. 42" deck, 16hp I think. It wont be long before I have to start breaking it out to mulch up the last of the leaves and clear the way for the grass to come back.

The mowers been pretty reliable. It's lasted me a long time. Only thing thats "failed"on it is the battery 2 years ago.

I do need new blades though.. at this point I'm fairly sure I'm cutting the grass with the side of a 2x4 or something. This area of GA is very rocky and I've managed to find every one of them.
