1996 GMC Jimmy not starting

Jbassmasterer17

Question

I just replaced the starter and the battery on my 96 jimmy and I am still not getting power to the starter. The engine is not even trying to start, nothing is turning. All the lights are on in the dash and everything else works except the starter itself. Any ideas??

On the starter there are two wires, one large from the battery, and one smaller one from the harness. The smaller wire should have battery voltage on it when the key it turned to start. If it does not, then you need to take a look at the neutral safety switch. The main job of that switch is to not allow the engine to crank over when transmission is not in Park or Neutral. If it is a manual transmission, this switch will be on the clutch pedal instead.

You really should verify that all connections are clean and tight. Do not just assume that since the connection feels tight, it must be clean as well.
