Single level and dual level airbags in Sierra. program in SDM, and ju

Question

I thought I had this figured out but maybe a GM tech here has dug more into this. I have been repairing a delopyed SRS system and found that my truck had the WT trims and single level bags. Per my understanding of SDMs, they are NOT programmed per the actual VIN number, but the VIN code may be used to determine the right switches to toggle when setting one up as new. For instance, 2 vehicles might use the same SDM PN# but are programmed differently as one might have 2 frontal sensors and curtain bags, and one may not.

I really thought I had determined that WT trims got single level systems, and all higher levels got dual level. Well, I checked a VIN from a WT and confirmed it required dual level bags. Frustrating! To add to the complication, it does not seem even dealers know how this is designated and used parts sellers do not know.

My module showed the plagued B1000 code which is an internal EPROM failure of the module and is certain death. I am finding that a majority of B1000 codes on the net for these GMs points back to the 20777733 module. There are two generations and both suck! They fail!

I figure GM will wait until forced to recall them or wait 10yrs until most are already replaced to recall them. You would think any module failure of an SRS system would warrant certain action due to the liability of it, but I guess not!

So, to my questions. Any techs here know the insides of programming these modules at the dealer per certain vehicles and the reasons behind the single and dual level builds?
