Just ordered

Recommended Posts

I just got done ordering a new truck. I was torn between a Denali and a SLT All-Terrain, I ultimately settled on the SLT due to the $4800 price difference between the two.

2015 3500 SRW crew cab long box 4x4 6.0 gas.

Iridium metallic, black leather, all-terrain pkg with roof lights, block heater, high idle switch, traileri g wiring provisions, spare tire, sunroof, spray-on box liner, 6" chrome steps, power rear slider.

I was surprised that you could not order the AT package and still get Nav, front parking assist, heated steering wheel, and cooled seats. Those are all that I really felt added any value to the Denali but I didn't feel it was worth another five grand. I'm coming from a 14 1500 Denali so I'll miss some of those a bit, especially the heated steering wheel, but I can certainly live without them.

Sounds well optioned, only thing I will advise you on is the GM trailer wiring, it is a complete joke, you must cut and splice the wiring into the GM wiring, this is sloppy and will lead to water getting in. A T-tap can be used instead, simply unplug the wiring and plug in the T-tap then plug the wiring back in, completely sealed and looks OEM.

On my '14 3500 I ordered the trailer wiring as well and was not happy nor was anyone else after looking online.

The high idle comes in handy, simply have the truck in park or neutral, apply the parking brake and turn on the cruise then set the cruise and it will just up to 1250rpm, helps cool the trans down after pulling heavy or warm up when very cold out, also helps the a/c really crank when very hot out.

Sounds like a great truck,

I too had to order what I wanted,

In Jan. I ordered a 2500 HD SRW Dbl. Cab Long box LT. gasser. I had to order mine as none of the dealerships in my area ever had a long box dbl. cab I too went from a 1500 LT. Only took 6 weeks from order date to delivery.

Thanks for the heads up. I called to cancel the wiring provision. They are going to call on monday and double check on the heated steering wheel and front parking assist, it seems odd that the computer will not let them select those without removing the all-terrain pkg.

I have an SLT All Terrain with nav and front parking assist, so you should be able to get those unless it has something to do with your 3500HD vs my 2500HD. Ordered mine Jan 12, 2015. Picked it up 3 weeks ago.

Thanks, I'll let them know. If I can get those, the only thing I'll be missing from the Denali will be the cooled seats and the fancier gauge cluster.

Good news for me, they were able to add on the heated wheel, front park assist and nav. Removed the wiring provisions too. It's got everything I preferred now, except for the perforated cooled seats. It's a shame GM won't let the all-terrain be ordered with it, still baffled by that one..

The lack of cooled seats bothers me as well, GM says it is because of the "special" leather seats, at least the all-terrian is the best looking of all the packages.

Congrats again on the new truck, I believe Flint MI produces the best trucks money can buy.

Congrats man, I have the AT as well and I love the look. I wish i had the cooled seats but its not the end of the world. Someone once mentioned that you had to periodically clean out the holes as they would get clogged.

I am envious of you getting the sunroof....that I would kill for. Having that with the sliding back window would be AWESOME!

I specifically did not want the cooled seats, don't like the idea of holes in my leather seats. Also did not want the sunroof, I had one on my 08 LTZ and it leaked for the last three years. This is by far the best truck I've ever owned (and I've owned quite a number) and I want it as trouble-free for as long as possible. So for me the AT is a perfect package.

  • 1 month later...

It took longer than expected but it's in! I won't take delivery until at least next weekend though, it looks like it got a door ding during transit.

Here's a couple quick pics, the 14 Denali 1500 is being traded in.

Drove it home yesterday. No vibration, no whistle, 13.3mpg all highway with very far from optimal conditions. Was getting 15.5 until we hit some crazy weather and bad roads.

It rides and drives great, I haven't bothered to check tire pressure yet. Ride is comparable to my 1500 Denali, a bit more firm but still smooth and doesn't wallow when you hit a big dip on a fast corner like the 1500.

I thought the engine would feel more capable with the 4.10's, using cruise control it downshifts frequently for inclines, and generally resorts to 4th gear where my 6.2 would handle it easily in 5th, even with the 3.42's. I know I was spoiled by the 1509 but it makes me think if I put much bigger tires on I wilk at the very least be wanting a tuner, and possibly a gear swap.

Not sure, but yes they were able to pull it out, no major body work required.

I like how the 6.0 has a lot more rumble to it than the 6.2, the 1500/6.2 was incredibly quiet, the 6.0 sounds like the truck has some muscle without getting annoying. I like it, I think I will be leaving the stock exhaust intact.

Best way to compare the power is it's like pulling a small trailer at all times with the 6.2. Fuel mileage seems to refelect this, after 500 miles mostly hwy I'm at 12.5mpg, the dash seems accurate to 0.1mpg so far. The 1500 always read about 1mpg higher than hand calculated.

Only critique so far is even with the all-terrain pkg the truck has a little too much chrome on the front for my taste. Body colored grill surround and mirror caps should fix that, if not the chrome center bumper piece will be swapped too.
