And the wait begins...

Earlier this week, I placed my order on Sierra. First time for me to order a new truck vs buying from dealer inventory. I almost went with a 2500 diesel, but couldn't justify the cost and the maintenance to own one. I decided on a 1500, but wanted a few options that dealers do not stock; 6.2l, standard box, and max trailering. Dealer informed me that the 6.2l is in high demand and may take 2 to 3 months to get in, ugh!

I've owned several trucks throughout the years, currently have a 2012 Avalanche. I would keep them stock with minor upgrades. On this one, not wanting to get crazy with it, but would like to add a 2" leveling kit, meatier tires, plus a few other things.

Since I never lifted/leveled a truck before, what are some of the disadvantages to expect by adding a leveling kit? I figure the ride would get stiffer, but what about towing (not that I tow a lot, but don't want to limit myself to much). Thanks!

Here's a picture of my future GMC:

Sweet!

Ride quality with leveling...I did 1 inch level in the front of the 2012 I had and it didn't change one bit, so I think that even 2 inch level, it should pretty much ride stock or very close to it. Towing, because you are removing the rake in the truck, when the rear gets loaded the nose will sit higher than the rear. If you leave it stock and load it, the truck would look level. might loose 1/2 an mpg? Hardly noticeable. Tires will hurt mpg more than the level, and if you go with an E load tire, stiffen your ride.

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 CC with a Fabtech 2" leveling kit and hardly noticed any ride difference. Perhaps it's a bit stiffer.

Definitely changes the stance of the truck so it's not nose-diving into the ground.

Only issue I can think of would be that some folks speculate that the changes to the suspension angles may lead to premature wear on the ball joints.

Thanks everyone for the input. Guess it's like anything, change the dynamics of one thing, it will alter another.

My first options for upgrades will be Diamondback cover, beefier tires (nothing crazy, Coopers or something), ranch hand brush guard, and possible leveling kit. Nothing like pissing the wife off when you tell her that you're about to drop $2k-$3k on a brand new truck. Lol

The dealer told me to expect 2 to 3 months, because the 6.2l is in high demand. Your order is about a week ahead of mine, let's see if mine will start on the week of the 13th.

Are you planning to put a leveling kit or lift on it?

Just for pulling my trailers and you get better fuel mileage when the trucks not lifted. had lifted trucks all my life. what is your plan for the new truck and do you know were it is getting built.

I figured I'll lose mpg, which I travel 60 miles round trip for work. Lifting may not the smartest thing, but I live in Texas. Which we all know things must be bigger in Texas (haha).

I'm tired of the Avalanche size, love the functionality of it but want something bigger. I mainly hunt and my goal is get a small hunting ranch in the next year or two. With hunting ranch, will require lots of trailering...

I have no clue where it's being built.

What do mainly haul?
