Gutting/removing 3rd cat worth it?

Recommended Posts

Is gutting or removing the 3rd cat worth it? I have a 2014 5.3 with an MBRP system on it and was wondering if gutting or removing that 3rd cat would give it any more sound at all. Anyone with firsthand experience please chime in. thanks.

There is already a topic on this...but I will repeat my experience on my 5.3. I gutted mine with the stock exhaust first and it didn't make any difference in sound, should flow better though.

I bought a $30 3.5" ball connector from Dr. Gas and had them swedge it to slip over the 3.5" stock y-pipe. Cut the 3rd Cat off and welded the 3.5 Ball connector in place of the cat and bolted the 3.5" MBRP S5086409 Kit to it. The stock y-pipe is the same total length without the 3rd cat. The Header kits do not have the 3rd cat on there y-pipes so if staying with stock manifolds It would be worth it to me to do this mod.
