thetruck454's "I beat cancer '15 build"

When I was diagnosed with cancer the day after my 30th birthday last fall, it kinda changed my perspective on life. I had been planning on trading my '03 in for a new truck, the cancer news just moved the time table up a little bit. I ordered the truck back in November before the chemo really took it's toll on me. I have been amassing the parts pile below while I've been going through chemo (don't worry about me going debt crazy, all the parts are bought and paid for). I got the good news my cancer was in remission in February and I can't wait to get the truck and start the build. I've already named her Vera, those few Firefly geeks out there will get the reference.

Parts Pile Includes:

Hellwig rear sway bar

Kicker amp and subwoofer

Black window trim, handles, and body moulding

TRS 5k HIDs

HIR bulbs for high beam

Weathertech mudflaps and floor mats

Borla cat back

TCUSA retractable toneau cover

Undercover swingboxes

20x9 +18 Rockstar II wheels and 275/55r20 General Grabber UHP tires

GM colormatched grill and black bow ties

GM aluminum/silver trim pieces to replace the fake wood ones

GM Rally edition stripes (way overpriced but I couldn't resist)

Pop and lock locking tailgate

Elite Engineering E2 catch can

Not included in the parts pile:

Powder coating front and rear bumpers satin black

Powder coating exhuast tips and rear pipes section satin black

Linex'd bed

Xpel'd front end

Eforce supercharger (I'm going to give them a shot instead of going with another magnacharger)

The darned truck! (currently has a TPW of 3/23/15 so I hope it's here soon)

My old girl is in the background with what I will keep for winter tires for the new girl.

General Grabber UHP should hook better than stock rubber in the summer, especially with the blower.

I have never seen these on a stock height truck with summer tread, it's going to look interesting

First off, congrats on being in remission! I'm sure you've been through a lot. My mother-in-law in now in remission as of a week ago.

Can't wait to see some pics of the progress! Looks like you are off to a great start already!

  • 4 weeks later...

Made some progress this weekend.

I installed the tech armor screen protector. It has about 98% coverage, wish it was just a hair bigger, but it should do just fine.

Got the interior trim swapped out

Vent visors on

Catch can on. I used the LFX mount and replaced the 6MMx1.00 bolt with a longer one then used some washers as a spacer to mount the catch can lower since it was hitting the hood. I used mild steel fasteners for now, if this works out I'll swap them to stainless.

Pop & Lock installed to unlock with the passanger doors

I also got the kicker soundgate amp/sub installed, but I can't get the sub to work. I have 12v power at the plug for the sub, but nothing from it.. I have the non bose speakers, but I have sound canceling because of the 6.2. I'll see if kicker can shed some light on it for me.

I also got the weathertech mudflaps and full coverage front/rear mats on. I read a lot about the weathertech floor mats not fitting well, but mine fit awesome and unlike the husky mats are one piece up front with bench seats.

Congrats on the Remission, and great looking truck and mods to come!

Thanks!

Wow. You made some good progress. Did you get the Weathertech No Drill mud flaps?

Yea I did. Easy to put on without taking the wheel off.
