Question

I just bought my first car, a 2004 sierra crew cab and am alreday experiencing some problems. Im not very tech-savvy, especially with cars, so talk like youre talking to a child. Several times on my way home from work and during the day thoughout driving, all the lights on the dashboard will randomly turn off. Normally they turn on when I start the engine but within minutes they blink out for the rest of the ten minute drive. Occasionally they will flicker back on but only for a minute before everything goes dark. The stereo, the speedometer, everything. I occasionally have problems with the back seat power windows and right now the hind left window is cracked open because it will bot close. Perhaps the two provlems are related? The car will be going in foe a little maintenance wednesday or thursday but if I can know and understand what is going on, that would make it ten times easier.

Try what chris maybe you can get another switch off ebay, scanning the BCM at the dealer would show if there is a code being thrown. Like stated above it could be a DRL sensor . It could be a ground issue but i dont think so

Btw welcome to the forum and feel free to post any questions in the proper location!

Next time the lights go out, tap the headlight switch. My dimmer went out on mine. They would flicker when i did that. Replaced the headlight switch and all good. And good for you for having one of the what i assume is a 04 1500 crew. Rarely seen.

Could also be an issue with the daytime running lamp sensor which controls the lights on the dash when the light switch is on auto. I had a similar problem.

Does the lights inside do that when you turn the headlamps on? If not my guess is something to do with the daytime lamp sensor.
