Alternative to Cognito Upper Control Arms

Recommended Posts

I have a 2002 Silverado 1500 with appox. 108,000 miles on it. I bought it with a leveling kit already installed but I'm not sure how long ago it was installed. I noticed the horrible angles the "leveling" created on both the upper ball joints and the CV joints. I have searched for a fix and came across Cognito who claim that their upper control arms will correct the angles on the ball joints (I'm aware they won't do anything for the CV joint angles) and provide a much better ride.

This is not a show truck by any means and I don't plan to dump a ton of money into it. I do like the look of the small lift and would like to keep it if possible but I would also like to not be changing ball joints every 6 months. Cognito uses "Uni-ball" ball joints which they claim are stronger than normal ball joints. Would the uni-ball design be more prone to dirt and sand getting in and destroying the ball joint? I sometimes have to drive unpaved roads so dirt/sand is a concern. The upper control arms and bushings that are on the truck seem to be original and are in poor shape so new upper control arms are not a bad idea anyway.

My question is: Is there another company out there has sells upper controls arms for my truck, with the same or similar quality as Cognito, that will correct bad ball joint angles from a leveling kit? I'm looking for options before I drop $500 for the Cognito UCA. If its that much, I might as well take off the level kit and install a real lift.

I read a list of companies in an older post on one of these forums and searched each company but came up dry. I've heard Fabtech makes something but I can't seem to find it.

Thanks
