07 yukon denali 6.2 with piston slap

I have a 07 denali xl with the 6.2 engine and it has about 100,000 miles on it. The issue is that I can hear what sounds like piston slap all the way until it gets to operating temp. then it seems to go away. Is piston slap normal on these? I have a warranty that should cover it if it is not a normal condition. I don't know what type of pistons are in these engine but I have normally only come across this condition with engines with forged pistons. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a computer upgrade but I don't want to do it until I know it is solid. Do any of you have piston slap?

Having a little noise' on a cold start is not that unusual. Until the oil gets up into the engine out of the crank case, there is very little lubrication up to that point. Just about every single GM vehicle I have ever owned had had some slap on a cold start. Only owned one vehicle that was not a GM, a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 4L engine and it had some noise on a cold start as well.

My 2001 Silverado sounded like a diesel until the temperature got up, never had any problems. Sold the truck

with 101,000 miles and the man who bought uses it for his construction company as a material hauler. He still drives and hauls loads without issue.

If that noise is going away when your engine is at temperature, you should not have any issues. I would not hesitate to do any upgrades just because of a cold start tick/slap. I don't have a 6.2L engine but it's the same GM design so I would say you have nothing to worry about.

Yes. I have piston slap on a 15k ZZ4 350 engine purchased through GM dealership...not a happy situation...my motor is basically toast... And I have to sick it up and continue my brand loyalty...that is a bitter pill to swallow....not a happy camper. ...

I am just concerned that it may not be normal. Is this noise there when these things are new? Just because it can make noise and stay running doesn't mean it is good.

I have a 2007 sierra Denali with the 6.2 and has the same thing. When it's cold you can hear it, almost like a diesel. Once it warms up its fine can't hear a thing. Iv had the guys look at the oil to see for any contamination and it's fine, along with the oil pressure. I read somewhere it's because of the aluminum block.

I hope that it is nothing. I am planning on sending my computer out to be programmed next week. I don't want to take it to the dealer for this issue if i don't have to and i don't want to get shot down on my warranty due to an aftermarket tune.
