2014 Sierra Front Diff Issues

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone else here has had problems with the front diff in their 2014 Sierra? I bought the truck in November and the first time I used auto 4WD in December I would hear random clunking/grinding. Took it to the dealer and they told me nothing was wrong after it took them a week to look at it. In January, while in auto 4WD I actually blew a hole in the front diff cover and leaked gear lube all over my driveway. This time the dealer acknowledged there was an issue and agreed to repair. After waiting 2 weeks for the repair, I heard from the dealer that GM no longer makes front diff assemblies for 2014 models as service parts (only 2015's) and forced the dealer to order every part and rebuild. I got my truck back in February after 3.5 weeks at the dealer and now it is the end of March and I have another grinding noise from the front diff under load in auto 4WD. It is now been back at the dealer and they say they don't know how to fix the issue.

The truck is great with exception to 4wd but at this point I don't even want it. Has anyone heard of any recalls for these issues?

Hi Rudie20,

We understand how frustrating this may seem, and if you don't find the right solution in the humming thread please let me know! Feel free to send me a private message along with your VIN, current mileage, contact information and preferred dealership. We would be happy to document this further and reach out to the dealership on your behalf.

I just found out that I lost my front differential on a 2014 Suburban with 31,000 miles! Although it's a 2014 it was purchased in September 2013 so the dealer tells me I'm out of luck, it's my problem. The transmission went out on my last Suburban at 18,000 miles! Has anyone had differential problems on the 2014 (or that model) Suburbans?

Wouldn't the front axle be covered under the powertrain warranty? That warranty is for 5 year/100,000 miles on the 2014 model so you are still in that period.
