tow ratings?

Recommended Posts

was looking up all the ratings on the truck i am picking up and have one question. how can the 3500 denali tow a 17k lb trailer if the GCWR is 20,500 lbs. the truck weighs roughly 6700 lbs plus at least a driver. how can it pull a 17k lb trailer?

am i missing something?

Probably a typo on gmc.com. The Vortec (gas) version with a GCWR of 20,500 lbs should have a conventional tow rating of around 13,000 lbs and a 5th wheel rating of around 14,300 lbs, depending on the actual curb weight of the vehicle.

The Duramax will have a substantially higher GCWR and is rated to tow around 17k 5th wheel (but still 13k lbs conventional).
