1992 5.7 Clicks, Then Starts

Recommended Posts

My truck is doing a strange thing to me. It's clicking when I turn the ignition key as if it has a dead battery, I've just replaced the battery (it did this on the old battery too), so I know that it's not the problem.

It will click once or twice, but will then usually crank. Once started the truck runs great, although some times I do have to give it a little gas while cranking especially when the engine is cold.

Any ideas on what could be causing this clicking? I've replaced the battery, distributor cap and rotor, and spark plug wires since I've gotten the truck. I also replaced the ignition lock cylinder, could this have had any effect?

(The truck was keyless when I got it, so I replaced the lock cylinder before I drove it too much.)

Sounds to me like your starter may be on its way out....It may just be a bad connection at the starter. You pretty much have to get under there to check the connections, so might as well take the starter off and have it tested. I would put a new cable on it while at it,,,,,and check your ground cables too.

Starter solenoid! Replaced mine myself, it's on the starter, costs about 20-30$ at most places and is generic for ford and Chevy... I'm certain this is the problem! New solenoid and a socket set and you'll be on your way
