2015 Canyon front end noise

canyondave

Question

Took delivery of a 2015 SLT Canyon Crew Cab 4x4 and I hear a "clunking" in the front end over small bumps and only while going under 15-20 mph. Dealer is very accomodating, had a GM engineer to diagnos the trouble when the dealer could not. I am told that the front axle is making the noise and is with in tolerance. It is more prevelent on the Crew Cab models and they are aware of it and they do not have a fix as of yet. I am sorry but this is a $40,000.00 truck, I do not want to hear a clunking noise going over small road inperfections. I was wondering if anyone else hears the same sounds?

I own a well-equipped '12 Sierra 1500 that I'm perfectly happy with. Not planning on selling that anytime soon.

Looking for a vehicle for my wife. Haven't driven one yet but once one hits Reno, NV, I'll be giving one a test run.

Heard the on-road manners are stellar so if it can replace a car and have the utility of another truck in the family...... why not?

I don't plan on paying more than $34k out the door. That's a price of a nice sedan or SUV.

If the Planning Coordinator likes it, then we're gonna take a good look at it.

I hear you! I was looking at a new 4Runner Trail Premium in Reno to replace the '97 I've been driving for that past 17 years... They don't exist in Reno or anywhere else withing 200 miles. Gave up on the Toy and then test drove a new Canyon, liked it a lot! Drove well, had a nice interior, plenty of room; just no covered cargo are like a Toy, but I can add a shell if I need it. Again, searched all over Northern NV and CA before having to place my order from Reno GMC... SLE 4WD Crew Cab, All-Terrain w/options. MSRP was $38.4, but comes out to ~$35K with GM Family First pricing. Price was real good considering they're hard to get, and still a lot less than the loaded up 4Runner I wanted. But by the time you add taxes, dealer ICON mods to suspension, and other do-dads, I'm sure this Canyon will still be well over $40K... I keep my vehicles around for awhile - I just hope the Canyon meets my needs

My 12 canyon had a noise. It was a bronze bushing they had to replace. Shortly after, it started making noise again so I traded it for a 14 1500 and now im dumping this one. I know how you feel. Lots of money put out for a sub par trucks. People rave about them but take the fluff out and you have a 1977 GM truck. good luck!

After returning to the dealer to have them re-evaulate the noise, I was misinformed by the salesman. The noise is actually coming from the rear end. It is axle end play. The rear end is a Dana rear, and the end play called for is 60 thousands. They say mine is with in spec. I found that if I am driving on a smooth road and turn the wheel right then left, to make esses, the clunking noise can be heard. As of now GM is aware but has not issued a service bulletin.

Last weekend, I went to Winkel GMC, no Canyons, went to Chevrolet, no Colorados.

Called Hohl GMC in Carson, no Canyons, Chevrolet in Carson, no Colorados.

Cant even find one to test drive. Every vehicle they have coming in have already been sold.

I'll see how it looks toward the end of summer after the hype dies down and more start popping up on lots.

I'm in Sparks and would love to see your truck when you finally receive it. Shoot me a PM.

Congrats on your new truck.

Did you seriously pay $40k for this truck?

Was that including total financing costs over 6 yrs?

Not trying to bust your chops, just want to know what folks are paying.

I'm really considering buying one.

My 2WD Canyon SLT is making the same noise. Dealer replaced steering column and steering gear based on supposed GM suggestions. Issue was not fixed.

I had this issue as well.Took three mechanics to figure it out.Gms fix was to retorque leaf spring assembly which did nothing for the clunk noise coming from right rear. One mechanic laying under truck while two shook it left to right and it became apparent the leaf springs were sliding across each other due to foreign debris in between the seats of the leaf springs.they took them apart clears the debris then reseated and retorqued spring assembly and no more noise.Hopefully this helps someone else out.2015 canyon crewcab SLT 4X4

I can't answer for him obviously, but there's a difference between saying it's a 40K truck and saying I paid 40K for the truck. With me my truck is a 41K truck, but after everything including the loan interest I'm paying under 40K. So I think he's just saying that it's 40K sticker.

I do agree with you KMG, if I'm going to pay that much for a truck it better be full size. But, on the other hand, the Gen 2s are a lot bigger than than 1st gens. Plus they're roughly the same size as full size trucks were about 30 years ago even though they may not look like the same size since old trucks are blocky. They just get bigger and bigger. But, you also don't get the incentives with the Colorado/Canyons like you do with the Silverado/Sierra. Some people just don't want a full size truck because of the size. The MPGs aren't a big enough difference like it used to be.

In a few years when they catch up with demand I may buy one. By then they will deal better, as long as my legs have plenty of room to move around. A little smaller truck would work great for me, I'm just not going to pay the same price as a full size.

Don't see a purpose in buying a Colorado when you can get a well packaged Silverado for under 40...
