Just picked up my 2015 Sierra 2500hd Duramax build date 3/15/15

Recommended Posts

Here are some things I noticed:

1. The windows roll down by remote.

2. On the IPC to the right of the gear selector indicator (PRNDM) is a "1" I thought initially it was a gear indicator like the F250...but no. Not sure what it means.

3. The touchscreen is very fast.

4. All of the apps are very quick too (new 4g radio for onstar must be helping ...son did a speedtest 14 up and down)

5. Ride quality is superior to the 1/2 ton. No float like the factory shocks...no chassis shuddering like the bilsteins.

6. Fuel economy at 65 was 21.5 by the time I made it home ~140 miles....Silverado was only 17.7 same speed on way up.

7. Cargo lights can be selected while in drive (IPC will display cargo light enabled message) but will not turn on until in reverse or park.

8. You can see the black plugs under the door on the chrome steps.

9. Absolutely zero vibration...all the way to 80.

10. The chassis loves bumps....stays planted no unwanted body motion.

11. People move out of the way when you roll up behind them in the fast lane.

12. Front park assist gives one high pitched beep when they turn red.

13. Hitch looks flimsy...very flimsy. rated at 1500 TW and 13K total. Looks like it was constructed in a similar fashion to the 1/2 ton.

14. Diesel is pricey.

15. Who sells high cetane diesel (50 or higher)

16. Transmission stays very cool.

17. Weathertech splashgards for the 1500 don't fit.

Congrats on the new truck. I just got mine on Wednesday after beating up my salesman buddy for a month. I really wanted the Cobalt Blue. How do you get the windows to work off the remote?

The dealer is installing towing mirrors for me as part of the deal, but the current small ones don't fold in with the remote like they should.

I also have that number in the display. Curious as to what it is.

And it sits WAY too high in the back.

OP, on item #2 of your post, that number 1 is a selection for only using 1st gear! The trans will never shift up if you use that one. It locks the trans to only 1st gear. Not really sure if that is necessary, but something caused the engineers to add that item in. Might be a good thing in some off road situations, but nothing I will probably get in to, and I go off road frequently. On second thought, that might be for starting down a very steep incline from a stop. It would hold and not allow the trans to shift up in that situation.

And your needing a diesel with a cetane rating 50 or higher would be for what reason? I go thru about 20,000 gallons of diesel a year, bought in several states at various locations, and I have never seen diesel with s cetane rating of 50 or more at the pump. But if it is a concern, then get some cetane improver down at the auto parts store, from Amsoil, or whoever. Not convinced that you will need it. A biodiesel blend will give you a higher cetane rating and burn cleaner than regular diesel, and it costs nothing more! The only issue with using a biodiesel blend is winter cold flow. You have to be a little more diligent about using an anti get in very cold weather. I have used bio blends between 5 and 15% for the last 8 years, year round, in the upper midwest and have never had an issue, even at -25F.

Thanks for the info on #2... I'm with you regarding the need but bigger heads thought it would be a good idea.

Regarding cetane. I don't know much but diving through the manual there's mention of a better grade of diesel that enhances all the good things. BP writes about it and here's an article: http://farmweeknow.com/blogs-benefits-high-cetane-diesel-fuel-3681

Beautiful truck and I love the color!

My next one is going to be a Duramax for sure, most likely in black. The difficult part of the decision is going to be body style at the time, GMC or Chevrolet. Front level will be the first thing I do. Those trucks really sit ass high for some reason.

Make an update post please after you have it for a while. Interested to hear if you have any issues. I planned on test driving one last week but the boss lady said "if you get into one and drive it, I know it's coming home and we don't need another truck".

Trying to talk her into buying a big 5th wheel and getting rid of our current camper. That way I have no choice but to buy the D-Max because the trucks I have can not safely tow a 5th wheel.....Hoping to pull this off by mid summer!

That way you can load a lot of weight in them while reducing the amount of weight coming off of the front end and not mess up the front end alignment. Basically use it as a truck without sacrificing braking and handling, or wearing out the insides of the front tires.

Be careful with cetane additives, a little is ok, more is not better. I've seen warnings from International and Mack advising against the use of cetane boosting additives due to engine and EGR damage that was blamed on excessive use of cetane booster. Personally i would be more concerned about the "lubricity" of the diesel than the cetane rating, this is one area where biodiesel blends really shines compared to straight petroleum ULSD.

The hitch is nothing to brag about, but there haven't been many complaints about the hitches breaking since 2009-2010 time frame. If it brings you any peace of mind new hitches are less than $200 and take an hour to install.

Only issue so far... The pause button for live music doesn't work.

Something I didn't like on Silverado that they fixed here. There's actually a lip on the inside of the entire rear fender. Even with splash guards installed there should be enough room to flush behind them.

Black body plugs can be replaced, dealer should have the other ones.

Cargo light will work in neutral as well, works great on tailgater's...

I have no idea why the shifter has a 1st gear selector when the same can be done using the manual mode but no big deal.

Are the plugs handled via bulletin or just buy them?
