Seeing the spy shots on the 1500's as well you can guess the fenders are going to aluminum on all of the GM trucks in 2017.

GM needs to dump or improve the gas motor side. Duramax is nice not everyone needs one nor afford one but prefer the gas and the increased capacity. That 6.0 while a strong motor is horrid on fuel. I would have a 2500 if I could get a different motor.

I have a '12 3500 with the 6.0L, and I think it gets good fuel economy for what it is, and it does better than comparable Ram's and Ford's. A 360 h.p. gas engine in something the weighs over 5000 lbs. empty is going to use a lot of fuel, period. Such a truck might do a bit better with a Gen V 5.3L and an 8 or 10 speed transmission, but I don't think by much.

It is what it is. You can go with a smallish motor that has to be loaded with fuel to get the power to move the beast of a truck, or a larger motor that won't have to be loaded as much to do the job, but will still eat the fuel due to increased size.

It's a lose-lose in an HD platform unless you bring in afm or some other form of fuel efficiency that just adds complexity and cost and usually not welcome in a truck used in commercial applications.

Most that buy an HD truck do so for the need of payload or towing capacity, and fuel consumption is just the cost of business.
