1996 gmc strengthening

I could start by saying, this is a tough truck..

..but the long term chores seem to coincide with a long term hot rod.

simply 5 speed 4x4 with early vortec v8 (5L), all factory.

door pins and springs is about all my cold place has allowed thus far. Brought the truck home in february.

The cab collar (b-pillars to roof beam) looked over closely.. keeping an "egg" puffed out is showing some strain.

welded a door jam, which only showed me that too was straining.(I broke it on my own mistake..)

Anybody gone outrageous large engine build, and what did you do to keep everything anchor'd and appearing as a gmc?

I have stainless lined up for the third layer of rocker panels, to match the 3 layers of full length cab corners.

3/16ths cross sills for under the bed..all of them.

polyurethane cab mounts, and destroying the front bolts for new when the time comes to swap them all.

rear shock mounts changed from flat plate top mount to cupped, via welding.

other than that, I like it pouncing like an animal. Suspension will not get much attention, just routine of shocks.

any advice?

I am also searching incorrectly or something for tires.

I want LT sidewall toughness with a letter T speed rating or beyond...cannot find what I want. 16 inch, I also want to keep factory wheels. I have broken side belts leading to healthy tread on my coopers, (116 S). It is like I outrun them in the take off quick.

I have only one performance number, it involves an eigth mile onramp.. it is in the 80s by the end, after slow turn onto it. It is comically quick, i was expecting an old truck, shifting like a tractor trailer.
