2015 6.0 Muffler Size Help

Recommended Posts

The stock is 3.5" ID and most mufflers seem to be 3.5" OD, so watch for that. I got a Magnaflo on my 2015. Nice throaty sound without being obnoxious.

But the 2500HD already has a great mandrel bent, SS exhaust system. The trashcan muffler is the only thing that needs replaced. There is no resonator either. GM did a pretty good job on the exhaust. If it hadn't have been for the requirement of a low noise muffler as part of the original build, and they could have put on a high flow muffler, it would have been a great setup out of the gate.

I would not downsize to 3" on the muffler. Why put a bottle neck in the system? You want sound, but you also don't want to put a noose around it's neck. The 6.0L needs to breath.

Agreed, damn shame they put that 35gal drum muffler on there.

Yeah, the stock muffler sure seemed out of place on my 2500. Thought GM had decided to go with one of the same style mufflers I have on my semi truck stacks! I yanked it off and put a Magnaflo muffler on within a couple of weeks after buying the pickup. Well, actually had my favorite shop do it. I wanted it welded.

Aluminized stainless (409) not 304 true stainless.

Aluminized, 304, I don't really worry about such things. Kinda like the Group III is not a true synthetic compared to Group IV PAO debates that so many spend time on.

I do not have a sound clip. I am in Michigan on business right now, so can't go out and do one for you. Will try to remember when I get home this weekend.

Do you have any drone at cruising speed or under a load? I've heard the 6.0 can be a drone monster with the wrong exhaust setup, but I've also heard good things about magnaflow. How long is your muffler? Is it shorter than stock?

Same stock length. I realize I am getting older, and the hearing is not what it was when I was 21, but I have never noticed any drone at any time with the Magnaflo on my 2500. Just nice, rich, throaty sound that isn't going to offend anyone. Someone hyper sensitive to drone might pick up on something from time to time. Neither the wife nor I have noticed any.

Good to know. If it's the same length as the stocker, then it must be one of the larger magnaflows. Probably just a smaller case then, right? Do you remember the part number? Sorry for all the questions. My dad is thinking about putting a different muffler on his 2500HD, but doesn't want any drone.
