shifting issues

Question

Hey yall,I drive a 2000 Chevy z71 5.3. I just had my transfer case rebuilt and installed it in the truck this morning. Now I'm having a major issue with the truck not wanting to go higher than 2nd gear and every once in a couple miles it will shif t back into first with no power, almost like its in neutral. It has never done this before the t case rebuild. I went down the highway and before you know it its redlining and won't shift. I have never seen this before.. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ill have to check that when I get the truck back. I did check the tranny fluid right before I took it to the shop. It was at normal level but it appeared to be sparkly from small metal shavings but it wasn't black, just darker from age. Keep in mind also my father(the previous owner) didn't necessarily take care of it. I'm assuming its the original fluid from when he bought it in 02.... So u might be right. But I added about 4 qts of auto t case fluid to the t case so I know it's not that for sure. I'm prolly going to have the tranny rebuilt sometime in the near future but ill check on that again for u. Thanks for the advice!

T case holds 2 liters ,

4 qt is double , how you did that with a level plug hurts my head

No there's no light. There was a service 4wd warning in the message center, but that went away after we unplugged the battery to reset the computer and it hasn't come back. Its at the shop now. Thanks yall

Lol yea we did it on level ground and it took all of them. Idk its starting to confuse the hell out a me now

Perhaps the bottles were actually 500ml in volume instead of 1L?

Sounds like a dew problem. Never thought of that. Problem with dew in high humidity is that the air is already full of moisture and does not want anymore.

When they tested the temp did they check them both starting at 30 seconds to a minute for the first reading? You know that after 5 min you do not have an issue anymore. They need to test from the start.

I have found that driving will clear dew faster than just about anything in non-frost season.

District is the GM "office" in your area. There should be something in the owners manual about what to do when the dealer is not being helpful.

You are in Florida and have to use the defrost on the outside mirrors? I am in Canada and have only had to use mine once in 5 years, and that was mid December when it was actually cold. Given that the mirror itself has the metallic content to allow heat to build up, it should be a no brainer for the dealer to simply measure the impedance or resistance in the heated circuit in the glass itself. If I was the mechanic, I would measure and compare the two parts. Seems logical to me that they should be the same value.

Yeah I know I hate it. I can't even find any other forums or videos of others with my truck having this issue. I just keep getting told to take it to a shop. It could be a thousand things and I've only checked problems 1-24 haha. Its all good, the shop I had the transfer case rebuilt at says they will fix the issue, and that it wasn't anything I did wrong when installing it. Hopefully its just something small like a bad sensor

Its what the guy at the tranny shop told me it took...I'm about to go legal with these ****s.... **** el Paso its nearly impossible to find a reliable shop around here...

But the level looked good tho so I have no idea either

Good thing about cases that use the fill plug to set the level of oil is that it is near impossible to overfill. Unless you lay the truck on its side with the fill plug pointing up that is.

The message means there is a code as well as the light .

It's to bad that the owners manual says to "see your dealer if you get the message",,,, they don't explain shit

If you did the work yourself, go back under the truck and make sure no wires are caught up anywhere. It sounds like some of the electronic controls in the transmission are not working correctly.

Reading the post again I am thinkin that your 3-4 clutch has failed , oil level and condition is what ?

I don't know how they came up with the results. I can ony guess. Anyway they refuse to even try a new mirror to see if it will make a difference. This is all I want them to do. I don't know if GM is aware of this.
