What's better for the value, filter or cold air intake kit?

Recommended Posts

The best bang for your buck is always a tune IMO. For the cost of most aftermarket air intake systems, it's about the same for a custom tune that actually increase performance, unlike the gimmick CAI's. I never had a tuned V6 but it should be noticeable.

I would not waste the money on an aftermarket air intake system. The factory air box is more that sufficient and is actually better than most aftermarket system that will cause you to waste hundreds of dollars.

If you want a serviceable filter, get yourself a good dry-flow filter. You don't need to worry about adding too much oil, just clean, dry, and replace.

No noticeable gains by changing the air filter.

Airaid MIT jr kit. Best of both worlds. With HP gains confirmed by black bear I believe over other CAI kits. I just can't find the link yet.

The "AirAid Jr" and the AirAid MIT (modular intake tube) are two different part numbers, different items when ordering.

The "AirAid Jr." is a complete kit. It includes the MIT (intake tube) and an air filter.

The "MIT" is exactly that, the air intake tube only.

BBP testing was done with the MIT and factory paper filter. Replacing your restrictive factory air intake tube with the AirAid tube is all you need.

Just replace the intake tube, leave the rest be.

I agree. The stock filter box keeps the filter enclosed. Sure some air intake kits give you a full enclosed box for the filter, but the price for most air intake kits are higher than they should be. I got the Airaid MIT so all I replaced was the factory tube between the MAF snesor and TB which is where the air in constricted in most stock intake systems. No need to replace all of it. Performance filters let more air in, but you either have to get an oiled filter which some don't like or get a dry filter which I hear lets some through since they don't have oil to help catch dirt and whatever else is in the air. I honestly see no need in a performance air filter unless you have forced induction. The MIT makes the air take a direct route instead of through a maze or in a big open box, cleans up the engine bay and allows you to get to things better. So even if you don't feel a throttle response difference, the last 2 reasons I gave is enough of a reason to get the MIT.

I say get the Airaid MIT tube and get the exhaust done. In my opinion you have to let the engine breathe in and breathe out better before anything else is done.

Do you have any pics of your engine bay after installing the MIT?

I was looking under the hood on mine yesterday and am just curious as to how these look since i'm thinking about getting one...

My Favorite is the K&N CAI I bought on craigslist for 100. It was 5 months old and the guy that had it said he didn't like it....his buddy said it was because his wife complained too much. Either was a hundred well spent IMO.
