Bought a New Truck - Questions....!

Recommended Posts

Just bought a 2013 Sierra, 1500, certified pre-owned through GM with 36,000. Looks brand new inside and out, MINUS under the truck. The frame and stuff underneath is rusty, like it came from somewhere where they salt the roads. Also, the body behind the tires, on the underside, has VERY tiny spots where the rocks and stuff from the road has chipped the paint and those spots have little shades of rust in them as well. You would never see them if they were not pointed out. I negotiated them to take the truck to a shop and prep the underside, and coat with a rust inhibitor which makes me feel better. But what about the tiny spots on the body?? Would that spread and get worse? Should I spot treat those areas and hit with touch up paint? I may be too anal here but its a nice truck and want it to stay that way.....Ill post some pics tonight

Gotcha, Ill take some pics so you can see where it is exactly. Other than that its like a brand new truck.....General question here, a vehicle from up north that has rust from the salt/etc. when brought down to the South (Ga) will the rust continue to get worse or will it stop where its at?

I asked about that because I know it needs to be prepped. I might jump under this this weekend with a wire wheel. They said they are going to blast it.....I shouldn't be too worried right? Being a 2013 and 36,000 I wouldn't think it could be THAT bad.....

Buy some 3M chip guard put it over the clear or color after you sand, metal prep, prime and paint.. It works really well to prevent chips. Any auto paint store should have it in a spray can. It's basically whats on your rockers.
