need help with transmission

Recommended Posts

ive got an 03 sierra 1500 4.8 4l60e

myobd2 reader is showing

torque converter clutch circuit/open

shift solenoid A and B electrical

shift timing solenoid

tcc pwm solenoid circuit electrical

trans was working fine, was doing routine fluid checks and seen trans was a little low so put about half a quart in (don't think I overfilled it and if I did it wasn't by much).

now it doesn't seem to have 1st gear, when I manually shift it I don't feel it shift from 1st to 2nd, I feel it shift from 2nd to 3rd and I don't feel it shift into 4th (55mph tach reads 3000rpm).

I put the scanner on it and got the above codes.

I haven't pulled the pan off yet to inspect the inside. (plan on doing that this weekend)

I did inspect the wiring on the out side and it seems fine.

what do you all think, did my wiring on the inside take a dump, or can one solenoid or whatever be effecting all the crap inside the trans. it seems to be just an electrical issue judging by the code reader.

thanks for the help and info.

The first thing to do is clear the codes and road test , the codes that come back are the ones to have diagnosed or throw parts at it , your choice

Is the code p0748 I've been dealing with this one since January. After rebuilt transmission.

Let me guess , you didn't think to take it back who built it for that code

update

I swapped all the solenoids and internal electric with a tranny I had laying around, still getting the same messages come up on code reader.

I had already inspected the external wiring, but I think im going to unhook it and pull it up thru the engine bay and give it a real good once over, and I bought a new speed sensor since I didn't have one on my donor tranny

I might even swap the neutral safety switch out too with my donor tranny

ill keep you up to date

by the way

I was up under the dash trying to figure out why my power door locks and horn don't work, the same day that these problems started.

I wouldn't think this has anything to do with it but who knows

Why don't you get alldata and actually follow the code instead of doing really dumb chasing ghosts and wildly guessing ???

You don't know what you're doing,,,

I'm out , do what you want , I'm done

I appreciate what help you do give

I wont pay for alldata (I think the lowest is 50 a month) ive got a family to support and I think that money is best used else where and I doubt I would use it that much to justify spending that money (this is after all only a hobby for me)

what you call really dumb ghost chasing, I call back yard mechanicing on a budget (after all I all ready had the parts laying around, so free to me, only cost me my time)

your right I don't know what im doing, I don't know trannys, the most ive ever done with a tranny is swap it or change oil in it. but this is why I went to the forum, to get some tips and guidance on the subject, if there were any other problem with the truck I probably wouldn't need help.

ive noticed you've said the "im out, do what you want, im done" quote or something similar on other posts, if this gives you so much grief then why even comment on here, why call somebody dumb or stupid, seems counter productive.

people join a car forum for advice or to help or to show off their accomplishments that they've done on their cars, some people have a wealth of knowledge, some are beginners, and some are in between, some do this type thing for a living and some as a hobby, some have loads of money to fix their car and some will have to do without for the month to get theirs fixed.

I really appreciate anyone help on here and im sure others do as well, it makes me happy if I can help someone with their car and help them save some money

cars are not like they used to be, everything's electric, ran by computer so its a lot harder to diagnose things, when my dad was in high school they had an automotive class, taught you the basics. nowadays people are scared to even try, which is sad, nothing better than fixing it yourself, that's why ill always help when asked.

sorry for the rant folks, have a good day, ill keep you posted on the next stupid ghost chasing endeavor with my transmission, lol

Chris thank you for clarifying that with me, I went back to the alldata site, I was looking at the professional one, I didn't notice a diy one. I ended up purchasing that one for the $27, very reasonable.

upon looking at the trouble shooting page it seems to be in the wiring, which is what I was going after in the first place.

again thanks Chris for that info, if it weren't for your post I wouldn't have double checked, much appreciated

well, figured it out, I started following the alldata steps and realized I had changed the starter ignition switch when all the problems started, so I put the original one back on and it fixed the tranny problems

thanks for the help
