Improving Video Resolution Playback On Mylink?

Recommended Posts

I was watching videos on my usb stick. From what i understand your only able to use 480p resolution videos, and they have terrible quality (very pixelated even on such a small screen). Is there anyway to improve the video resolution capabilities on the mylink screens, or watch higher resolution videos?

This was in my 2015 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ Midnight Edition.

Not an answer to your question but I am disappointed that the screen isn't a higher resolution to begin with. As much as we pay for these trucks I thought the resolution for the back up camera would have been much better.

yes, from what I hear it's the screen itself that doesn't have the best resolution. I was talking to the owner of Camera-source.com and they are working on a replacement backup camera, he says it's a little more clearer than the factory camera but also said the resolution is limited by the dash screen.

How can we improve the resolution on the screen itself? Or would we just have to replace it with something aftermarket giving them another reason to void our warranties? Lol smh

i would replace the factory screen with a higher resolution screen as long as it still looks factory, does anyone make such a thing?

Boggles my mind that in 2015 there are display screens that even exist that aren't AT LEAST 720p on the low end and 1080p standard. The cost difference is so negligible that I can't believe even notorious tightwad GM would skimp on it.

A few things to think about mates:

The 8" display is a multicom bi-directional touch screen not a monitor. Limited in design to use as much GM existing hardware and interfaces possible, unlike your smartphones. Higher the resolution, the harder it is to (more precise) use the easy to view and depress icons and menus while in motion or passangers. The low pixel count also aides with angle and distance viewing.

IMO- GM is ahead of the curve a bit with this tech while still keeping bound to new and upcoming more stringent legalities and such.

My getaround was to mirror my Bluetoothed smartphone thru a HDMI cable to MyLink. Just like when using your phone on a big screen TV at home or traveling, anything you can do with it now, is converted to use on your 8" MyLink system. 1080p movies, internet, mail, NAV, etc. is's endless, with no recurring fees and still having your MyLink audio and voice command.

I'm so happy (wife too) after doing to my new truck I made a guide to share here at this link http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/175444-new-2015-silverado-smartphone-mirroring-guide/

Hope you like it and explore others options available to us.
