4L60E Tranny Issues ('04 Sierra)

Recommended Posts

About a month and a half ago my Sierra started shifting hard between 1st & 2nd and sometimes between 2nd & 3rd after the truck was warmed up. I am not a transmission guy so I did a little digging here and other places and found that the most likely culprit was the valve body - I took it to a local transmission shop, the guy said the same thing I went ahead and scheduled to get her in. I picked the truck up Thursday afternoon, drove it home (about 22 miles) and it was fine. I put about another 60 miles on it Saturday and it shifted fine. I was driving Sunday and the dummy light came back on and now I am once again shifting hard between 1st and 2nd; not as hard as before but a hard shift none the less.

What other issues could cause this? The guy I took it to has a great reputation - he says he put in a new valve body and I believe him. He is closed on Mondays so I haven't been able to get a hold of him so I figured I would pick the brains on here...

It's no dummy light , it's smarter than you and most other veh owners ,

You get the code pulled from the PCM and have it diagnosed , hard shifting is a default because of the code ,

You jumped the gun and replaced the VB for no reason ,

How do you feel now ?

Do it right and take it in , a dealer with a tranny guy just might be able to fix it seeing how he may have done this a million times before you show up,

My 2 cents , no guessing with transmissions folks

Sounds like you need to take it back to the transmission shop because it's still not fixed.

What was the code from the "dummy light"? Did the shop actually check it or did they just ordered the part you suggested and install it for you?

It seems as if the shop didn't even check to see what the problem is. Reading your post, it sounds like you told them what part you thought you needed so that's what they ordered for you.
