S-L-O-W, very slow website.

Recommended Posts

This site takes the longest by far for pages to load. It's reminds me of dial-up internet. I love the site, but the time it takes to use tends to sway me away more than I would like. What gives?

This site is run on top of the line equipment, and is broadcast geographically using content delivery networks. This means most of the site is cached to a location near you for faster delivery. There should be no reason that the site would be slow for you.

Tests show our site is faster than 60% of all websites on the internet.

What do the specs on your computer look like?

I'll see what I can come up with, but most of that is not things I am familiar with. I know that other forums are almost if not always faster.

Ryan, sorry it's my laptop with IE browser.

This site is actually working better than normal for me now. I ran a traceroute and it came back as "General Failure". I will check it again when the site isn't working well for me.

Traceroute isn't necessarily a useful test. It uses PING echo / echo reply messages with decremented TTLs to detemine what devices are between you and the web site. Any device in the line could be configured explicitly to block those kinds of packets (and often are) and your whole trace is useless.

As far as your experience goes, it's certainly not what mine is. This site is always very responsive for me.

Have you tried taking your laptop to a public location with Wi-Fi and trying it there? It's entirely possible that the connectivity between your Internet Service Provider and the server where this site runs has a "weak link" somewhere. Using a public hotspot could help to identify if that's the issue.

Apparently it took posting this thread to fix my problem. Like taking your car to the mechanic and it won't mess up as it usually does. Thanks for the replies, and hopefully I will be around more often. :)
