4 wheeler and dirt bike in bed?

Recommended Posts

has anyone here ever put a full sized quad and a standard dirt bike in a standard bed and got the tail gate closed?

i need to tow my camper and bring 2 toys along with me.

i know the honda recon 250 will fit with the tail gate up and plenty of room on the side for the bike.

but i am looking at one of the standard sized 4 wheelers.

they are about 46-47" wide and about 80 inches from front bumper to the back of the tires. the race on back can hang over the top of the gate.

presently i can fit 2 dirt bikes in the bed of the truck if i turn the front wheel into the corner of the bed up front and slide the rear of the bike towards the center.

i think i can get the bike straight in if i let the air out of the tires to gain a couple inches.

has anyone got a pic of a quad and a bike in their truck with the tail gate closed?

i think the only way i am going to get the actual answer is to go to the dealer with my truck and bike and see what they have that will fit.

IF the dirtbike is shorter then the bed front to back then I would say MAYBE. in order to do so you would have to put the four wheeler on one side of the bed and the dirt bike on the other (obviously). however going by what you said above about having to turn the wheel to get the tail gate up is a sign to me saying it will not fit.

also if your going to be towing a travel trailer with at least the 4 wheeler in the back I would say you will probably be over your payload limit depending on the size of your TT. if your not going far then you will prob be fine but if you are going far then just use caution.

EDIT: when I load my 03 Kawasaki prairie 650 in the back it pretty much fills the width of the bed (from wheel well to wheel well). there is probably an inch or two on both sides which is another reason I don't think it will fit.

You say you have a standard bed truck. To me a standard truck has a 8' bed. Here whats makes me laugh and laugh and you all can say what want about it. Lots and lots of people are buying lots and lots of trucks and they have their reasons for buying a truck. People add all kinds of stuff to their trucks to soup them up or make them all purdy with lifts that they dont need with tires they wont use but (hey its your money) when it comes time to haul cargo they come here all besides themselves and worked up looking for solutions to get their cargo to fit in the bed with the gate closed or will my cargo weight destroy my gate because my cargo doesnt fit completely in the bed. Now you want to see what the dealer will say. If i was the dealer first id say you have to much cargo for that undersized bed. Then i would try to sell you a truck that is more suited to your cargo. One way or the other after you left i would smile and shake my head. What good is a truck you cant use because when you bought it you were looking at the wrong end of it. Nothing bothers me more than seeing a new pickup truck overloaded or improperly loaded due to space restrictions and oversized trailers when they blow past me when im cruising in my 1940 gmc one ton flatbed. Depending on your trailer door and camper layout maybe you can stick it in the camper. If not and its going to be a regular happening hauling all this stuff i suggest you get the proper sized truck. I thought i could get away with a canyon. Its a good little truck but once i realized i couldnt haul what i wanted i went and got a full sized truck with a full sized bed.

Damn, who pissed in your wheates? 95% of the population with a truck has no need for an 8' bed. I dont want to even think about trying to drive it around here in the city and get parking. Current truck is bad enough

I couldn't agree more! I already had a hard time parking my double cab now I've added 10 inches to my truck (in rear passenger comfort) still have the same bed.

Any truck has sacrifices, sure you can get a single regular cab and have tons of room in back for cargo. But then you have no room for passengers!

You can get a crew cab and long bed but then it won't fit in the garage!!

To the above post I mostly read bla bla bla

If you don't have anything of value to contribute to MY THREAD then stay out of it and take your whining elsewhere!

Back on topic!

Thanks!

As far as GM is concerned, a short bed is 69.33", a standard bed is 78.87" and a long bed is 97.77".

Ok let me directly answer your question.

Yes, you can do it, with a quad riser.

Check the pictures and see how you can build one yourself or just buy one.

Interesting, do you know how many inches you gain with that? Seems a lot less expensive to just some air out of the rear tires when you load it up

Nobody pissed on nothing, just observations. I saw where someone made a rig to hold a quad on top of the cab,one vertical in the bed and one traversed on the bed rails. It looked cool but didnt get to see how it was done.

You build one that gives you enough clearance to get the quad in there. It's a triangle that you are making. Simple geometry.

The higher you move the front up, you tighten up length needed to close the rear gate.

All I needed was 18 inches of height in my old truck so I just made one out of wood.

If you want to go big-time get you a diamondback bed cover and just drive the quad right on top. You can side load two or suicide load one.

There's options out there to get the job done.

Truck is 51" between the wheel wells. If the quad you want to load is 46-47", then bike needs to fit in the 4-5" remaining, or fit over one wheel well.

If it's 51 between the wheels and I can slide the quad to 1 side I bet I gain 5 inches in width that leaves me about 12 inches to maneuver the bike past the atv the only question is can I get the tail gate closed or at least mostly closed with an extender.

I have a feeling that between driving the front of the atv on some kind of step up front or letting air out of the back tires u can get it in with the gate closed
