2007 gmc 4L60e transmission just stopped working

FISHER1981

Question

I have a 2007 gmc Sierra with a 4.9 liter and 4L60Ehas 92,000 miles.

I was leaving the red light and it felt like bogging down a quick second and then no transmission?

There are no leaks, codes, burnt smell, fluid still looks great.

check level with eng off and with eng on,level of flid does change, any ideas?

You are not providing enough information. Remember we were not there, so you need to explain what you mean.

With the truck running, do you have reverse, and does the truck actually drive in reverse?

With the truck running, when you switch from Park to Drive, does the engine speed change, do you "feel" the transmission engage?

With the truck running, when you switch from Park to Low, does the engine speed change, do you "feel" the transmission engage?

With the truck running in Park, check fluid level. With truck still running, shift truck to Neutral, and check fluid level. Is there any difference in levels?

With the engine not running, and having sat a minimum of an hour not running, check fluid level again. Is the level different to what you got with the engine running?

The proper way to check the fluid is to get the engine fully warmed up, and the transmission should be warmed up as well. If the fluid is cold, the level will be low as well. The level of the oil can change by a half to a full quart depending on the two temps. Park on a level surface, and once parked, let truck idle for a few minutes before checking the oil level.

Friend with same truck as you 5.8 liter (never heard of the 4.9) he had the same situation. his brother is a mechanic. checked it out said it was toast. traded it in on a 2014. hope you have better luck.

Re reading the thread ... If the trans oil level DOES NOT change running or not then you have a transmission oil PUMP PROBLEM as in its BLOWN UP ,

I may have some experience with transmissions...
