2002 1500 v6 won't start

Question

I'm posting on behalf of my brother. On Tuesday he was driving through town and a low oil pressure light came on. Then the truck died. Now all it does is turn over and over. It has oil and is getting fuel. I had it started today on some ether but wouldn't stay running. The fuel pressure in the line was about sixty till I started cranking then it dropped to around 45 to 50. Will that oil press. Sensor cause it not to start until we replace or have the computer flashed.

Ok so we did a little more tinkering and the coil pack is not getting any signal. We are now contemplating taking it to a shop; because we think it might be the cpu after tracing a whole bunch of wires.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery and leaving it disconnected for a few minutes? If not, then disconnect the ground cable from the battery and have a beer. Then connect it back up and see if the truck starts now.

I am fairly certain that the fuel pump will not operate without oil pressure in the engine, which is why the truck shut down in the first place. Are you sure the truck has oil pressure now? Oil pressure is not the same as oil level.

The reason it ran on starting fluid is because the flash point on starting fluid(usually ether) is very low, and it will ignite simply by compression in most engines. Try to avoid using ether to get an engine to start. It is intended to help start an engine when air temps are below -40 degrees.

Thanks for the reply. No I'm not certain it has oil pressure. I left the battery unplugged for a whole day and came back and still nothing. I'm thinking that ecm won't let it start until something is done about that oil pressure sensor. I told my brother that he needs to start doing some research before he just starts throwing parts at I guess we will see what he does.
