Moroso Air-Oil Separator (Catch Can) Install

Recommended Posts

I finally got around to installing a Moroso Air-Oil Separator (Catch Can) in my 2014 GMC Sierra SLT 5.3. I've had the truck just slightly over one year and it has 6400 miles on it. Everything looked surprisingly clean to me. Of course, I couldn't see the intake valves, and that is what I'm most concerned about.

I've included some photos of the product before and after the install. I am very impressed with the quality of the unit, but expected no less from Moroso. The installation was rather straightforward. Although it probably wasn't necessary, I did add an extra vertical support.

I'm anxious to see now much stuff (oil/condensation/?) will be collected, and the collection rate.

What exactly is the purpose of this separator? This is my first new truck much less a newer one. I don't understand the need to for the why. It looks good though and if you don't mind me asking what's a setup like that run?

Can you sow me where the hoses connect, the instructions aren't very good and only show NNBS and NNBS

Are you referring to the Moroso instructions and application? If so, I'll see if I can take some photos tomorrow, and clarify this for you.

Found it on the addendum in elite engineering's directions. The pcv line is different on the 15 from the 14.

I hooked it all up and works great except the hoses make noise, no leaks just a very audible hiss of the air passing though the lines. Didn't hear this on my fx4 ecopoop, is it normal for the chevy?

I'm glad to here that you got it squared away. A lot of people have complained about that audible hiss of air and some have also noted that the hoses seem to be sucking together a little bit, but others have said that they have not experienced either, myself included. I'm not sure why some do and others don't.

I didn't notice it until I added the clean side oil separator from elite-engineering. They didn't include the 1/2 inch hose (even though they show it in the pictures) so I ended up having to get it from my local auto parts store.

I guess it's possible that the type and quality of the hose could also be a factor. The hose supplied with my unit was GOODYEAR 3/8" 50 PSI FUEL/EMISSION SAE 30R7. I've read where others in this forum had to resort to transmission, or even hydraulic hose.
