reset abs?

barry G

Question

I installed an all metal/billet base hurst shifter for the nv3500, screwed down the carpet under the boot..

first five feet in my driveway, abs light kicked on.

I static'd something and have an ms609 code reader/resetter on the way to see what the code is.

I am wondering if I can give it 3 strikes its out rule on my own with a reader that knows abs...

is there a reset to let it find an error again?

will find out on my own soon enough, but never encountered this before.

thanks.

p.s. And that hurst shifter is worth an ABS light trigger for sure. The only aftermarket part aside from plug wires, it was a must do. My 1996 shipped with a plastic base and silly long throw..

got the scanner in the mail, fancy stuff..this 1996 has both o2 working at the same time. Was using the live monitor part of my 78 dollar scanner. I was told this truck only used one o2, years ago.

may explain 22mpg.

anyway.. no code. Ghost light. I bet the new shifter is anodizing, molecular monster.

I do have pc74 LED on the way, it may diode the monster out. Swapping the last bits of dash lights, the tiny bulbs. All the 194 are swapped already (very nice stuff)

the dash did the same, outer edges.. random light bulbs died.

will go from there.

thanks for replies.

348k miles as of now... I am accustomed to these diodeless monsters.

Read the code. Assess the code. Clear the code. See if code returns

cool, thanks.

I was preparing to go all out.. and thunk twice. I know I changed a dramatic area for statics...added a carpet on top of that. No pun.

I learned it would be a speed sensor most likely. I found the high grade replacement for the transfer version has abrass base. the one it now appears to be plastic.

Will do whatever it needs, ABS saved my life first rides in the winter, did not know the truck very well.

6 months now.. 5000 miles. Liking the old gmc.

it seems this saga is not over.

I have two new front speed sensors.

I changed one, and now the abs light is half bright.

comes on full bright as I expect to see when turning key on... then a normal system it simply goes out.

not this one. it goes half out. Simply dims down some.

someone with skills know what that is?

to reiterate..

the abs light kicked on after installing a hurst billet shifter. I was not even moving. First start after the shifter install. I just knew right then it is some kinda weird dummy engineer problem.

not mine.

will be swapping the other front speed sensor tomorrow, see what happens... I do not believe it is going to fix it.

is there a place to put a proven diode in the circuitry someplace? This is a loop problem.

I do hear the abs motor do its checks , abs seems to be not disabled...but not sure.
