Among the mid-size pickup fan community there is perhaps no topic more passionately discussed than the current lack of a diesel offering. Both the folks at the Tacoma sites and everyone who is a fan of the GM trucks are clamoring for a diesel truck. Last week GM officially announced that the Duramax is a go. The press release was intended to give the impression it is available for purchase, but actually that will most likely be November. Either way, the truck is no longer a "future product." Thus, we reached out to the GM communications people and asked them to tell us how many of the Colorado and Canyon will be built with the Duramax. Our guess is they won't say, but if they do we will report it post-haste.

So, just for fun, let's lay down out predictions. Here's mine. Initially, the Colorado/Canyon trucks with diesel engines should sell at a high margin. There are many people who want it badly. They will all have one by Christmas and they will pay near MSRP. Then more inventory will arrive and the folks that want one, but only at a reasonable price will buy one. These sales will be controlled entirely by GM since demand should outpace production. My prediction is it will roll out like this:

Colorado Canyon Predicted Sales:

- October/November 2015 - 20% (2,000 units per month)

- December 30% (3,000 units total)

- January, February, March, April - under 15% (1,500 trucks per month)

- Sumer months (Diesel is cheap) - 20%

- Winter months year two and beyond (Months that diesel is crazy expensive compared to regular unleaded) 10%

Please post your predictions below.

I am not really in the market for something else, but I would even consider getting a 2.8L diesel Colorado. I was especially fond of the 2.8L diesel in my 2006 Jeep Liberty. living rural, the diesel would be a good choice in this little pickup, as it would not be a typical grocery getter ride and would fully warm up properly running to and from town. I couldn't justify a Dmax in my 2500HD, as I haul more than I tow, and when I tow it is on the lighter side. The 2.8L in the Colorado would be ideal for a rural pickup that does similarly. I will be looking closely at them when they start showing up near me. Once they start getting out in the market, and folks realize the true potential, they should be a good seller. I would venture that many who would buy a 1500 would take a second look at a 2.8L Colorado. It would fit a lot of 1500 owners needs well. Most 1500 owners hardly use their pickup to its full potential anyway.

My big concern is the EMISSIONS they cripple it with and the urea can that be gotten rid of?

All of these EPA mandates that cripple the owner with super expensive repairs and particulate filters that clog up. The death of a diesel is all of this mandated garbage on there.

They even put emissions on tractors it is beyond stupid.
