Not being expert in all things United Auto Workers, we will report without too much speculation that the UAW has begun to prepare for a strike against General Motors if the contract negotiations don't go to the union's liking. Multiple news outlets following the contract talk's progress reported this afternoon that the UAW is setting up votes to authorize the use of a strike if needed. To be clear, the vote is not to strike or not, but to get the Locals' support in advance so that tool is available later if it is required. Marketwatch reported that UAW President Dennis Williams commented on the topic of a strike, saying that if it came to pass a strike would be a "failure on both parties' part."

After the $10 billion taxpayer-funded bailout of GM and what we used to call "Chrysler", the UAW agreed to a temporary no-strike clause.

Whatever happened to the days of show up to work, and do your damn job? Where did all of this entitlement come from? By the way, YOU CHOSE TO WORK THERE!!!!!!!

I do that 4 days a week. I Clock in at 6AM, do 9 hours of Honest Work assembling Bicycles (or any other tasks the upper management wants me to do) and Clock out at 3PM. I might not like waking up at 4AM to get ready for work, but at least i'm doing better than the lazy people who think they are entitled to get a Government Handout.

The UAW are payed Hourly by GM. GM has the power to lay off its workers when there is no demand.

They are line workers and maintance personal.

The ones making the decisions brought down GM, not the low level employees.

A lot of ignorance here.

UAW continually demonstrates they don't care... They are a parasite.

They are also a huge part in GM vehicle prices going up. They get paid crazy amounts of money and really don't do much of anything. Then they get more raises and prices have to go up again!

I have a cousin that works in a GM assembly plant and she claims they assemble vehicles and it's pretty simple actually, the hard work is done by robots.(her words not mine)

She also said people would be enraged if they knew how much they get paid because of the union.

GM needs to get rid of ALL of these employees and hire people who will do the job for less than $25.00 per hour or more.

In high school, I worked in a Fleetwood Motor Homes assembly plant. They did not have a union and got paid well. Not crazy wages like tge UAW, it was a normal salary and everyone was happy.

Wonder why so much production has moved to Mexico? China next?

Labor costs and advantageous trade agreements is why Mexico is exploding with auto production. I don't like the idea of foreign built cars (from American brands) but supporting the UAW isn't much better IMO.

Unions=Organized crime and thugs at best.

Protection racket.

Proved out by my personal experience.

Union shot through my parent's house because of an illegal strike when Dad went to work to feed us.

Decades later, IBEW union at ConRail tried to damage my car because I spoke out against them. (After I said my piece they left me alone. Fear is a wonderful motivator)

The union guys also get more holidays paid than most other workers in the U.S., and certainly more than any business owner. I used to haul to auto assembly plants. These guys do goofy stuff. For instance, depending on dock, they are required to unload X number of trucks per hour. Once they reach the minimum, they shut the forklift down, grab a newspaper, and sit on the forklift just passing time till the next hour. I have seen this myriads of times at assembly plant docks. Doesn't matter that the driver of the truck needs to get unloaded so they can move onto the next load or go home.

I have no problem with a trade union like electrical workers, plumbers and pipe fitters, etc. They also demand certain levels of training to stay up to date on new techniques and products, and have certifications of proficiency. But labor unions are primarily focused on how to get more for doing less. To be fair, most guys on the line do a lot of work and deserve fair compensation for what they do. But there is a lot of folks under the UAW umbrella that need to be culled from the herd.
