Pro Comp is Trash

Recommended Posts

Topic title says it all. I bought Pro Comps coilover kit for my 14 sierra. Wtihin the past 18 months I have had to replace the rear MX6 shocks twice. And now the cherry on top is the right front coilover that is leaking. I don't abuse my truck it is a pavement princess and I have had nothing but issues with this suspension.

Pro Comp stated that I need to pull the coilover and send it back for repair. About $300 bucks for rebuild, plus approx. 2-4 hrs labor at $90 plus alignment at $90 and I am at $500-$800 to rebuild 1 coilover. I wouldn't mind it so much if I were jumping the truck or rock climbing and shit but that's not the case, basic driving and the shocks have failed 3 times within 18 months. I have probably put about 12k miles on the suspension.

Anyways, thought I would post to give folks a heads up in case they were in the market to steer clear of Pro Comp.

I tried to explain to Pro Comp the situation and they stated the coilovers only have a 1 year warranty. I get that you cant warranty shit forever but normal driving and the damn shocks fail is pretty sad and pathetic.

I have decided to put the truck up for sale and knock off $500 bucks. I will be ordering/purchasing a 16 HD when I get the chance to and I will be going with a Cognito lift this time. No more Pro Comp trash for me.

Thanks for the information, it's good to hear first hand. More than anything, it's good to know how much (or little) a company stands behind their product. I had Bilsteins on my Tacoma and 10 months after putting them on, I switched to a BDS lift. Came to find out one of my rear shocks had blown and was leaking. Bilstein obviously has a solid rep but I was pissed nonetheless. Like yours, mine saw only paved roads. Putting a 1 year warranty is like the manufacturer saying that they're only meant to last for a year under "normal use." Most warranties are voided when it's determined a vehicle gets thrashed on the regular anyways...so a 1 year warranty is pretty lame. It can take a year for a small manufacture flaw to compound itself enough to manifest as a problem.
