Certain themes just work for advertisers. Put a handsome, athletic guy in a vehicle and have him say a few words and watch the sales roll in. Buick used Peyton Manning to push the Verano. Lincoln uses Matthew McConaughey to push crossovers. The problem some might have is the believability of these multi-million dollar stars driving those vehicles in real life. Chevy won't have that problem with this new "Chevy Rodeo" advertising. The plan is to use real-life rodeo stars to promote the Chevy Silverado HD.

A rodeo star is not going to roll up to the event parking lot in a Prius. Anything but a truck is going to cast doubts. So Chevy's new advertisement makes sense. What do you think? Will seeing rough and tumble cowboys and cowgirls in and around the Silverado HD help sales (which are through the roof anyway)?

Using the cowboy thing might be trying a bit too hard IMO.

I liked the "Chevy Runs Deep" ad campaign they used during the centennial celebration. And I thought it was extremely foolish for them to drop those ads. I know GM is all about gaining market share and trying to grab Japanese appliance buyers but not leveraging the history of Chevrolet is stupid. I was born in the 80s when the Japanese brands were gobbling up market share. None of the children of the baby boomers who bought Toyotas and Hondas year after year are going to have a special place in their heart for those brands. Instead of trying to appeal to the lost causes that blindly buy from Japan they need to use their brand image to get buyers. And frankly I think the "Runs Deep" spots did just that. Don McLean and Elton John sure as hell never sang about their Honda.

I'm a 38 It/trade support tech and I love my truck too. I never bought the vehicle because some celeb drove it. I bought it because it worked for me and what I needed it for.

Picking a truck is a lot harder than picking up a car. Could careless what car I drive as long as it gets me from point a to b. But for the truck you have to put a bit more thought.

The only thing I have ever had against ads by any pickup OEM, is that they make bold claims about what their pickup can do, but anything more than driving it like a car is considered "severe service". On the stud or babe causing me to buy something, it backfires all the time. I have no interest in getting a Carl's Jr burger because a hot model is having sex with her's on TV, and I have no interest in a auto/pickup that has to use cheesecake or beefcake to sell it. I figure that it is a substandard product if they need to go that route in advertising.
