Kooks Headers

Recommended Posts

Hey all, just installed my kooks and catted y pipe on my blackbear tuned 2015 5.3 and had a question/concern. Now I know I'm gonna need a retune and will do that as soon as I get my autocal back from my buddy, but it's throwing codes P0420 and P0430. Is that to be expected? Truck has airaid MIT and stock catback, sounds pretty good and seems to run good to, can't wait for the retune!

I'd bet you got the Highflow cat option. This will trigger the CAT efficiency monitoring (since they don't work as well EPA wise). No worries, like said before its normal and tune will fix)

Both of those codes are for the post cat (after cat) O2 sensors, as said they are reporting that the cats are not operating at the correct efficiency. Justin will turn them off in the tune as they are not used for fueling control, only to let the customer know if the cats are working correctly.

Yeah I know they can be turned off, just wasn't expecting it after spending what I did on the headers. If they mentioned this on their website I would have just bought the ones without cats and saved some $$. But oh well...

Will adding long tube headers and catless y pipe affect mpg in any way?

Probably since you will want to get on it more they will go down :)

I have reserved Kooks headers and off road y-pipe. the guy has only off road y-pipe and he said catted y-pipe is not available.

I will run it with the stock exhaust.

I might cancel the reservation since i'm afraid that the sound will be so high. The guy said it won't be high if you run the stock exhaust.

I want the kit because the headers are ceramic coated which will reduce engine compartments heat as well it will improve horsepower but the sound is my only issue.

I'm looking for a pleasant tune that come after the engine goes above 4000RPM but the off road y-pipe might be annoying I guess.

It is not cheap, costs around $1650 w/o installation.
